I have email an describing GoTo.com's ability to encode the serch terms in the wildcard part of the domainname. eg: http://linux.docs.goto.com/ or http://gnu.goto.com/ My email is dated 2/17/99 and they must have had that feature sometime before then.
IANAL but I think this could be considered very similar and Goto.com has a bunch of money (I think) and maybe if they were made aware they would want to fight it.
I'd be happy to provide my email but I doubt a dated email from someone's sent folder is proof of prior art in the laws eye.
I was in your position about 5 months ago and I got Green Frog Linux and am quite happy witht that. It is a small minimal distro, just enought to get you to a shell with a compliler and your basic utilities. I think the DL is about 26 meg.
It uses R2D2 init scripts which in my opinion kick ass. they are easy to admin and don't reqire any config app to make sure you get it right. It also comes with DevFS which did cause some headaches when I set it up but there is a new version since I installed GFL which may have solved the small problems. IMO DevFS is a good thing TM.
My adivce if you try it is download everything you'll need, GFL, kernel sources, devfs patch, and a good boot disk (Tomsbrst works well), and be familar with the chroot commmand. Then format your install partition and put these files on it so you don't need networking until your up and running.
Once your have GFL up and running it isn't that hard to build the rest into a perfect machine. Citrix
My box at home is a dual PII 400 setup and I like it very much. I splurged for SCSI on the motherboard and I think that wasn't the best choice. If I could do it again I'd have gotten the SCSI as an expansion card.
Anyway, I highly reccomend getting a mother board that can do 2 processors and if you need save the money by getting only one processor now.
The Net Express site is a great site for doing research when building a system. hope it helps
What the post office needs to do is release an old atari collection. Ya know, PacMan, DigDug, Centipede, Space Invaders, Pitfall, etc.
Then to encourage excessive use of stamps they should make them fit like puzzles, so you can combine two stamps to make a bigger picture. They could also maybe make an extra buck that they are complaining about losing to email.
Back when AOL IM had a java client I connected a Eliza based chatter box to it and let it loose on April 1st. I've since lost the code but the output of one of the better conversations I posted on my web site. http://thecity.eu.org/apfeliza.html (I go by Leknor on that site.)
I still think it is quite funny when I read it. Hope some of y'all like it. Citrix
Back as freshmen in college my best friend and I started a little web hosting and design company. Nothing big and probably smaller than you want but it brings in a nice steady small flow of cash. We decided to incorporate as an s-corp in Florida. Overall I think it was a good move for us. We learned a lot.
Neither of us knew anything so we went to city court house and started asking questions. A month or two later we were a company. We only stared with about $2,000 so it must not have costs much. I think our biggest expense was a lawyer which I think we could have gotten by without one but it was nice to have someone make sure we didn't get things too wrong. The government won't tell you until it is too late (or so I hear)
I don't keep all the records (my partner does, thank god, and I just know enough to make sure the numbers add up about right) but I can tell you it is very important to keep good records of everything. We were slack for about 4 months and it is still a big headache almost a year later.
I don't know if this applies to y'all but my partner and I had to learn to trust the other to make business decisions with out the other. We were running everything past each other and there is nothing like a committee to stop progress when you need to get your feet under you asap.
Disclaimers don't really mean anything. Banks disclaim everything (I know I work at one) but if some one sues us, a judge has final say.
What needs to happen is someone big enough to sue someone big enough on software stability and have a precendent set. This won't happen because no one big enough wants the situation to change becuse any libabily created by the case would apply to them also.
It would be nice and we can dream that some day people/companies will be responcable for theirs own actions.
note: I agree companies should be more responcable but then should not be scape goats. eg Doom cause kid to kill

I'm happy to see this released and maybe I'll try it out. Maybe I'm missing the point but besides a debugger, what real advantages is any IDE going to have over my favorite text editor with syntax coloring and a console with a history?
Webmasters could create a session and pass it in a URL with each page. This suffers from all of the same problems as cookies, except that the session ID isn't stored on your hardrive. Unless you bookmark it. Ooops.
What if your browser keeps a history that has all the URLs in it? Sorry to be anal. In general I think cookies are a fine. just my two cents Citrix
I know it says Comments are owned by the Poster but the reality is Rob/Andover/whoever is ultimatly responsible for/. I work at a bank and we disclaim everything we can but that doesn't really matter because if/when there is a dispute it is the courts that have the final say. If disclaimers were truly meaningful, Microsoft should have disclaimed it's business practices.:-) Citrix
I know this is offtopic but really, post like this should not get moderated up. This specific instance probably isn't an issue but cut/pasting a chuck of text from another page and posting on/. could possibly get Rob and friends in trouble. I've seen post like this many time before and this seems to be the easiest way to inflate your Karma. Anyway, go ahead a mark this as flambait. Citrix
sorry to be off topic but... Why would I want to get an amiga? Are they better for Sound/graphics? Can I hook them up to my TV esaier? I don't mean to start any flame wars. I just want to know what an amiga can do my current dual pent.2 can't. ===
I haven't verified this but if I remember correctly this Friday is the end of the Aztec calendar. The end. The calendar just stops. I don't know how but it does. So my question is: does anyone know if these meteors are just a little bit bigger than usual?:-)
There is room for all formats. The more choice the user has the better. Just like there is no one true operating system. All of them combined make the computer world a better place.
The user will chooses the format that is most widely available. Face it the [il]legal copying is mostly done by the home user.
In the end the format I uses will be my choice. If no one else make the same choices as me that is fine. It is nice when people agree with you but it isn't necessary.
(Correct me if I'm wrong) The psx uses a motorola processor like the mac and this lets the emulator take advantage of similarities between the processors. If Sony had chosen to use a intel processor some intel freak would be ripping the mac. So keep your pants on and realize they are both about the same. They are compeditors so each will release one slightly better than the other every couple of months.
ummmm, is my anonymous call still anonymous if WAVE has caller ID?

There is a funny little site called the Linux Documentation Project
It contains fun Guides that cover topics like:
I do not know enough kernel stuff to know if they are usefull or current but maybe they'll be helpful.

What I'd like to see is a way you could control your Aibo with a palm. If you could do that I would have trouble not getting one of those Aibos.
