I would but none of those options show up for me under beta.slashdot.org. I suspect it may be related to me not being logged into the beta page but once I log in it redirects me to the normal slashdot main page. Whee!
That is why I spent more money on my car and got one with higher crash test ratings, even though it was more expensive. Airbags on all sides to help prevent my head from going through a window.
I'm probably slightly biased though, I was never bothered by wearing bike helmets.
Seems like an answer to that is anyone who wants to bike without a helmet is not covered by any insurance in the event of a head injury. Of course then we would probably have a lot of the "it will never happen to me" crowd being supported by disability insurance... sigh.
But will governments continue to blaze the trail by themselves or fund private industry to do it? Christopher Columbus' expidition wasn't a state project, he had to shop around to multiple governments before he found one that would fund HIS project.
I got a 3.3 GPA in my undergrad while using paper notes and a 4.0 in grad school while using a computer. Not exactly a balanced comparison but...
While going through grad school I found that I did best if I played a game that required little mental activity to keep my mind from wandering away from the lecture (Eve Online mining or mission running was excellent). Then for notes I did better if I didn't take a note for everything but instead listened to everything the lecturer said and then summarized during the breaks.
I read the book summary on Wikipedia after I watched the first episode. Seemed like something that would make a good movie but would be hard pressed to fill a TV series...
While the software is running, pixel X:0 Y:0 shall be set to RGB Value 128,128,128.
Ok, even that can probably be badly nitpicked as I took 15 seconds to write it. And you were probably talking about ideal vs reality. Yeah, I've had my fill of really freaken awesome requirements to work from...
Or as they say with requirements. The best requirement is usually the shortest requirement that is complete and unambiguous (plus a few other things depending on the software level).
Yeah I live there. Creeks run through the city around Grand Rapids and the woods are still there. Find a house where the property ends in such woods. Not necessarily in the woods but close enough for me.
The way it was taught in my college class anyway, Agile is simply a different process for implementing code. The problem is not how the code is written but how the customer requirements are written. Both Agile and Waterfall will suffer greatly if customer requirements are incomplete or worse, contradictory. The results are always having to go back and rewrite code
Agile can work nicely to develop the customer requirements into a modular system where components can be quickly added and removed as opposed to the blob of spaghetti that Waterfall can produce. However both Agile and Waterfall can end up with that same blob of spaghetti when the developers are not disciplined enough to design carefully instead of quickly.
I work for a software contracting house. We do some work at fixed price so we get paid X to finish a job, no hourly pay. This means we work until the job is done, even at our own expense as long as the customer does not ask for anything beyond the initial contract.
From what I'm told my deep grooves are at least partially to blame. Probably should have just gotten sealants event though insurance didn't cover it. Now insurance can pay for fillings instead...
I'm 5'9" and 140 pounds, have not changed the way I eat for years so I suspect I eat less crappy food than average. Honestly I'd suspect those cavities were developing for a long time and would have shown up anyway. Who knows.
Cut which out, being healthy? I think insurance is based more on how often I go to the doctor than how much I pay the insurance companies. If you do have proof that my spending more on insurance will help other out, please let me know.
Saved it. I try to keep all of my expenses to a small portion of my income and save the rest. The most expensive item in my house is my computer which I pieced together for ~500 a few years ago.
Caffeine seems to last longer to me but then I could take four hours to finish a 20 ounce pop. Though since I stopped drinking caffeinated pop I don't feel tired in the afternoons. Though after I cut back on pop I started getting more cavities... go figure.
Near ten years as a software developer with no major medical bills (crossing fingers it continues). Don't remember the exact amount it saves me each paycheck but I think by this point I've covered the high deductible. All depends on where you are willing to gamble...

I'm surprised they didn't arrest the 3 and 8 year old kids across the street pointing plastic guns at cars that went by...

What's a girl? Can it be made using an equation?
Actually managed to marry one that loves blowing up and shooting stuff =)
Usually when I think of science I think of blowing stuff up...

Just my bent $0.02...

How many great scientific discoveries were due to a dare?
And when trigger locks and similar work 100% of the time when used correctly, people are going to use a more expensive alternative?

Is sentience that matters or the potential to become sentient?
