At my college I worked an internship at a local engineering company for three semesters (essentially one full time year of work) over my four years of college. This internship covered half of the cost of tuition for my four year degree.
Yeah things are pretty bad now but it wasn't a whole lot better in 2002-2003 when I was applying for my internship. Also many companies I talk to are short handed for software engineers. So options are there, though definitely not completely across the board.
Personally I think its a cool prototype (meaning does not need to be practical) but IMHO a flying car should have a performance improvement while in air. When this thing can go 2.5 times faster on the ground than in the air, it seems like it will be faster, and more efficient, to be on the ground 99% of the time (for my understanding of use of such a vehicle anyway).
And that's before you get to the cost of new software for the new hardware, at least the military can skip a lot of FAA software regulations but they still follow many too.
And given this argument is between ACs, we are free to picture the argument as between which ever individuals we wish. A gradeschooler is arguing with a liberal college dropout?
Sure the FA-18 has been a proven aircraft for some time, and IMHO should continue to be produced after the F-35 is flying, but it doesn't fit all the roles the F-35 is supposed to (I question that capability too). The F-18 has no vertical takeoff capability and upgrading to the same level of avionics I'm sure they are putting in the F-35 would be very costly.
Ultimately the biggest advantage of the FA-18 is it handles its role quite well but it also dosen't try to do as much as the F-35 is. Though I'd like to see either aircraft actually do the job of an A-10...
I like the slightly larger droid bionic myself as it feels like they built the device around the screen rather than the other way around but I do agree fully on no liking massive screens.
I'm not big on holding a tablet to my face, doesn't really sit well. I also don't have a good pocket typically for carrying a tablet. For me a tablet smaller than 10" is too small to use (for my purposes) and a phone larger than ~4" is just to large to carry around in jeans and a t-shirt.
Personally I second a post further up about using a pebble watch and bluetooth headset with a smartphone. I'd add to that a 10" touchscreen display that can wirelessly connect to my cellphone should I want a bigger screen. Basically the ASUS Padfone with wireless rather than physical connection.
Not sure I'd call the F-35 a purebred, its like six roles crushed into one aircraft and they wonder why it has performance issues. Still fully agree with your assessment.
I agree traction control is less useful but the main advantage for me is if one tire is on ice and one on dry pavement, the traction control prevents the slipping tire from using up all the power. I don't think I've ever found traction control all that valuable when I'm already moving. Plus that 08 is a tank and gets traction on anything...
I still want a V8, rear wheel drive, manual transmission car but self driving cars are something I want. I may be a good driver (have not damaged a car in driving since I was a teen, even on icy roads) but being able to spend the time going to and from work productively rather than watching traffic would be awesome. On the other hand I want an override as I'm not sure I'd trust a car programmed in California to West Michigan winters...
I've got an 05 car without anitlocks or traction control and an 08 car with both. Guess which one I drive in heavy winter weather? Just because the last fifty miles were cleared perfectly doesn't mean the 500 ft when I want to be able to stop aren't pure ice. I want all the "oh shit where did my dry road go" gizmos on my car I can get since I can't spot ice a few hundred feet ahead of me in the dark.
I think they would just wire the cars with a speed limiter based on the current street's speed limit... just so long as the car doesn't suddenly slow down to 25 on a freeway overpass because the road under the bridge has a lower speed limit.
I already have a phone that does this. As someone who is aware of my surroundings and generally conscientious, I simply turn my phone to "vibrate" or even - God forbid - OFF... It works very well indeed. And I even still receive alerts if a call or text came in. Amazing technology.
Society is made up of people, it is flawed because the people are (IMH(or not)O).
I don't claim to have perfect understanding but the idea that a lot of what we see comes from people being tribal or clan based makes a lot of sense. For so long the survival of a group (tribe) of people was based on hoarding a limited resource.
Most everything you've listed seems to fit with the idea that all resources should go to me and mine.

Just my bent $0.02...
anyone want some? The show is entertaining as always.
Seems to me when there are major opinions (and egos) on both sides the answer is probably somewhere in between. Though not necessarily in the middle.
I'd ask for tickets to Mars but I suspect much like jobs, people will be much the same no matter what planet they are on.
AC-130 gunship partnered with B-52 carpet bombing. I think they would have to be spread through the country for that not to have an effect.
Just curious...

I hate you... enjoy your google internet :)

Yes the F-35 will replace the A-10. There is something so wrong about that idea...
Did you mean they get pissed every time a dollar they think belongs in their pocket goes to someone else?
I've got a monitor similar to this one http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2668386 which has worked really well for me.
Agreed that the reality is probably something other than the ideal I'm dreaming of

Except for those with the near monopolies...
No, I need the assault rifle to stop the government from taking away my assault rifle... not sure if I'm serious or not. Sigh.
Not to mention, how many of those murders used more than two or three shots (and those that did, did the extra shots really matter)?

Yes Apple already patented the technology, silencing the phone based on GPS location. Similar to geofencing that came out in iOS 5
Please pay Apple $2 every time you use their idea. Just because you press a button rather than use an app does not negate that it is THEIR idea.
