There is a key exclusion in that pp : "of non pay-per-view television programming". Now all hollywood needs to do is make all HD content worth viewing pay-per-view and consumers are yet again screwed (like we are today trying to make backup copies of DVDs that our kids watch - and scratch).
This may Sound like a lot of work `pay-per-view` but make no mistake about it, it will be exploited by the MPAA to thwart our fair use rights.
The courts have already Convicted Bill and Microsoft. The illegal Monopoly now needs its punishment. I think Bill should be shackled and keel-hauled. They just never give up with the legal games...
Microsoft is evil. Bill is a convicted Monopolist. The company should be shut down. Do not buy an XBox - they are just Trojan hardware for Mr. Bill to continue to Try and control the world.
Buy a PS2 instead - then run the Linux kit on it...
Linux is not the Only thing I administrate but to answer your question: The shoe just fit. I'm handy, am addicted to Operating systems (anyone remember DEC's RTS?) and in a business that needs an operating system capable of coherent networking.

This is great. Now, what software exists (4 linux) that will allow me to burn to dvd-r/dvd-rw/dvd-ram? Formats I need to burn are: just data; dv; dvd video; vcd; svcd.
I want to archive my old Hi8 and DV tapes to a mediam that might last osama's nuking of my neighborhood.
Bad laws deserve to be challenged. Civil disobedience is just another tool for challenging them (among other things - the greater good etc). However it is not the only tool. We can also boycott the product, start library clubs (of dvds) etc.

No real surprises, but its getting submitted a lot so I figured I'd post it for you. Lots of good points, but I'm sure you can guess the gist of it
This is not the first time the editors of slashdot have admitted to posting stories with no redeeming value beyond the fact that they've been submitted repeatedly and they can no longer be bothered to send off rejections.
In short, it has been announced to astroturfers everywhere that, in order to get your stories published, no matter how inane (as this one certainly is), all you have to do is make a concerted series of submissions to the story queue, until CmdrTaco or someone else gets sufficiently tired of it and do exactly what said astroturfers desire: publish their story and lend an air of legitemacy to their view.
And we wonder why the quality of slashdot's content, in both story and commentary, is so rapidly declining..
Check this out:
We paid NOAA to chart our waters. NOAA gave the data to BSB Electronic Charts, LLP for nothing. And now to get our data we have to pay juice to Maptech.
This is a start to giving us our charts on the OS we choose. But the data (charts) need to be made available for free and the file spec needs to be opened.
This is the next DivX. (As in the dvd pay per view ripoff scam.) The consumer who knows and cares about MP3s does have a technical ear to the ground with respect to this technology and the word will get out.
Last weekend my 2 sisters (technically unsavvy) cornered me at a family party and asked me if Linux was ready on the desktop yet. I said Yes and there was a brand new distribution in test (Mandrake 8) that I would be happy to install on their windows machines. They are both suffering from windows bitrot on 1 year old pentium III machines and hate it.
Yep. The consumer can just Eat Elsewhere because they are not liking what Micro$oft is feeding them.
The DMCA should be repealed. Lets start a campaign to get that boondoggle off the books. Face it that law was Sold to big publishing interests for soft money. The ACLU and the American Library Association will back the effort. We need an icon and a web page - or is there already one?
So you are telling us that this is vaporware. Why not just release it? The linux community can deal with code that *not finished* 8)
I think this is just a plant to bolster the case against 2600. Yes, another conspiracy...
So mr Bill is feeling the pinch eh? It is a sad day when the only choice of product available comes from 1 company. PC operating systems are obsolete Bill - get over it. Windows is DEAD.
So the Monopolist is going to use the Monopolies' cash to buy the politicians to crush free software? Good luck. Best he'll do is put the government computer systems into a tailspin of OSMuck(TM). Making them worse than they are already.
IBM what do you think about this strategy?
SUN?
Army? Navy? Airforce? Marines? NASA? NSA?
NOAA? How's that new linux cluster running? Oh by the way, you have to install NT on that baby now!!! Oh, What? NT doesn't run on the Alpha architecture anymore? Then replace it with and 8 way Compaq server.
What do you mean the Human Genome was sequenced on a machine running OSS with OSS?
Ha. What a Joke!!!!
Dear Bill,
May I suggest HariKari?
It really is the only way out now.
Nvidia needs to publish a list of which Nvidia based cards And Bios support the bandwidth and modes for using the DVI interfaces with the SGI 1600SW.
Does anyone know if there be a Dual DVI Nvidia DVI card that works with the 1600SW? Quad?
This screen requires a digital transmitter with lots of bandwidth and some cards with outboard transmitters won't work with it (eg IBM's Riva TNT2 M64 DVI-I which has a Silicon Image 154).
Cards that will support this screen are: Matrox G400/DVI, Hercules/ Guillemot Geforce1 DDR-DVI (PCI !!!), Geforce2 MXs with an outboard Transmitter, Geforce2 Pros with an outboard transmitter and Geforce2 Ultra AND Nvidia Quadro cards like the SGI V3/VR3. Do not bother with GeForce2 GTS/DVI cards. They will not work. They have an onboard transmitter that only supports 10x7 screen bandwidths.
Currently I am using the Asus AGP-V7100/2V1D working with the 1600sw and multilink adapter on Mandrake Linux + XFree86 4.0.1 + NVidia's
binary drivers. It works well except the console looks ugly (in most modes Grub lets me pick). Without using the FBConsole is there any hope for this console support? And it was a bit of a hassel getting the current binaries working in X... But it looks great.
Everyone wants NVidia's chips. Steve Jobs, Even my 11, 12 and 15 year old nephews. Nvidia has all the business they want and are in a better position than microsoft. They don't need microsoft, microsoft needs nvidia.
Nvidia is in the process of 'unifying their driver' set and creating one source tree for all their chip families/os's... Linux and Windows are or soon will be running the same drivers.
1.5 or 2 years ago there were NO Nvidia drivers for Linux! So we have come a long way.
Recently I purchased a new 3com cardbus card for my notebook (running linux). I popped it in and it worked. I didn't have to install any drivers - the ernel/pcmcia subsystem already knew about the card.
I put the same card into a brand new notebook toshiba notebook/win98 and the machine choked and died on the card - it begged me for a floppy/cd or some other method of controlling the hardware. In my book Linux has windoze beat on the driver front.
Forget the Tomato & V8 juice. Use Clamato! Presto - it is way cool, salty from the get go. The Tobasco and Celary Salt are Not optional. This is all a good start now back to the Vodka - just my $0.02 - use Absolut Citron (frozen) and you have a kick ass drink. Cheers!

Then don't wait. Just run Linux!

There is Hugo. It reads bsb charts. The project could use some help though - hey how's your C these days?

Mr. Bill is just a boy who got lucky. Now he is a convicted monopolist and his company an illegal monopoly. Its all in the FoF...
If he is so responsible for his actions then lets shackle his arse and lock em up.
My Asus AGP-V7100/2V1D is recognized by Xfree's pci scan as:
(--) PCI:*(1:0:0) NVidia GeForce2 MX rev 161, Mem @ 0xe0000000/24, 0xd8000000/27
And it works just dandy!
