Personally, I can only see this taking off in industrial environments where the server room is very hard/expensive to keep cool.

The concept of running a server room that warm, is just plain foolish really... I can see the techs now, sweating all over the place, fumbling with cables on the telco patch or else fumbing and sweating all over a server that they are installing... just not good really.

To have equipment able to tolerate these temperatures is a good thing, I agree to that, but this kind of system really shouldn't be targeting the standard datacenter/server room. It should target High Industry where they are going to be put in environments where heat is a constant, no matter what.

Now, as to savings, yeah, you could definitely save a few dollars by increasing the temp a bit on the server room, everyone knows that, but who in their right mind would want to crank a server room to 104 farenheit just to save a few dollars that you may not be saving depending on the TCO of these new racks.

the JPG exploit is actually an old one (I thought even ms got this exploit in sp2 or something like that) and is really easy. Basically you take a jpg image , open it with a file compression app and then drop your payload in. When the Image is loaded, the payload is executed, effectively infecting systems. Really, as an exploit it is quite a frustration, however as a means of cheap encryption, it could prove entertaining (need your buddy to get your message and not have the teach read it in front of the class)... Where I actually work, we use a different issue tracking system (Not nearly as comprehensive as service desk plus), but it is free and gets the job done quite nicely. It is called Tech Center (Or Web + Center Version 5.0) and it has the basic/critical features for issue tracking, just not the bells and whistles like live chat and such

When she dies, its going to suck terribly, but you know what, when it happens, I wont get her cloned, it just wouldn't be the same cat. Sure it would look the same... but it just wouldn't be the same cat and that would creep me out. Instead, I'll end up marching back to the same shelter, play with some more kittens, and take home whichever one picks me. I'd rather do something to help a cat/dog that is in need than to have a creepy clone of my cat that turns out to be crazy as opposed to cool.

Same plan for when I have enough living space for a dog as well.

Just get rid of the shortcut, it's a lot easier than trying to rip out vital parts of the OS because you'll just get all whiny when removing the only web accessing part of the OS too.

You'll whine that you can no longer use FTP, you'll whine that for some reason you can no longer connect to network shares, etc. What you want to get rid of, sir, is the shortcut. After all, IE is basically a wrapper around the internal engine (Trident.)

Anyway, there are still some applications you should not remove from most distros. Remove apt from Ubuntu and have fun setting it up again, stuff like that.

As long as you have another browser/ftp client installed, there is no issue with removing IE. Its as easy as Start --> Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs --> Add/Remove windows components and uncheck IE and hit next a couple times. Finish with a reboot and you are IE free. If you want IE gone, get rid of it, your OS will not stop working because IE is gone. As to network shares, in an IE free environment, ohh!!!! wait... oh, they work the same as they always did (Which may not be the best way, but MS isn't known for doing things the best way). If you want to be lazy, delete the shortcut, if you want to remove it (And remove it properly), just make sure that you have a web client and ftp installed already and you are laughing. Don't buy into the Whine Scare... your OS wouldn't stop working. Besides, even if you do run into issue, you can go right back into add/remove programs and put the checkmark back in and hit next.

I know the feeling. Up until a couple of months ago I used to work in the IT dept for one of the Hospitality Industry Giants as senior support for their "latest and greatest" application yet. Well, I was one of the original trainers for it, when it came out and we did our beta rollout, the app shouldn't have even been considered alpha ready yet. It was garbage, the app was/is slow, bloated and buggy. I supported the application for 2 years live before the issues with the app got me to a point where I could no longer in good conscience support the application (Financial issues with the app were really really bad and core functionality was still nowheres where it should have been at this point). It is/was that bad and it seems to be the growing trend to put out alpha quality products as if they are production ready, simply because it can be patched later. Its a horrible mentality to have, but when the almighty $$$ is the thing doing the talking, everything else can sit on the back burner.

Personally I used the engine in its older revisions (A5 Standard Edition and A6 Commercial Edition) and I know a lot about the engine has changed; and so has the community, so I am not 100% sure what the community is like now, however it did have a rock solid community when I had the time to dabble in game dev. Really, the solution would be to find a happy medium. Enable drive quotas for users, tell them they get X MB/GB of space, they fill it, too bad, THEY need to clear it out/maintain it. They come to you with issues, you tell them that their solution is to delete some non-important stuff. I have been down the road before and while you may piss off joe blow now and then, you are still making their workplace a little better overall, and you are ensuring that they are responsible for their personal data.
