> what did XP bring to the table that was better than 2000 for the average business user?
Its been a while since I've used Windows 2000 but didn't XP bring in native wireless. I think you could do 802.11b with 2000 but it was with the vendor's drivers. XP has the standard built-in wireless interface that vendors can now write to.
I am a linux fan as much as the next guy but I think you are comparing apples to oranges in terms of drivers support. You have a brand new system built in late 2004 and are installing an operating system from 1999. Its no wonder there is poor driver support in Windows 2000. The system integrator provided the approriate drivers to make your system usable. Why Windows requires so many reboots is a different story.
I think a better comparision is a Suse distribution from the 1999 era.
Didn't MS-DOS 4.0 have issues with fdisk and partitions and format. Its been a while but I remember something about massive data loss. Thats the reason they came out with 4.01

I think your calculation is incorrect. Aren't there 60 minutes in an hour? I don't think that is accounted for.

Its been a while but I believe that you can use the WinPopUp application in Win 9X.
I believe that Microsoft has native support for IPv6 however it is not installed by default.
Go to Microsoft's site and download UPTIME.EXE Put in your Winnt directory
