  1. Ahhh... Nostalgia... on Head of Oracle Linux Moves To Microsoft (zdnet.com) · · Score: 4, Insightful

You know what struck me while reading this story submission? I decided to go read the comments from the previous slashdot stories linked in the article summary that dated back to 2004-2007. The number of quality comments back then that were devoid of SJW b.s. or other political nonsense completely unrelated to science and technology. Whipslash, how do we bring all those commenters back to the site? That's what we need right now.

  2. Re:This is actually quite amazing, folks! on 'Brain-to-Text' Interface Types Thoughts of Epileptic Patients · · Score: 1

DId you read the journal article? Are you saying that experiment is non-repeatable pseudoscience or something?

It sounded at least plausible to me.

  3. This is actually quite amazing, folks! on 'Brain-to-Text' Interface Types Thoughts of Epileptic Patients · · Score: 1

This is truly incredible what they have accomplished! I was sure when I read the headline that this was going to be another typical case of modern day Slashdot headline madness. I was shocked when I read both of.the attached articles to discover this really does sound like the first step in creating brain to computer interfaces that used imagined speech to control. Very, very cool. Rather surprised at the lack of comments on this one. Maybe everyone assumed it was BS and didn't even bother clicking?

  4. Answering the poor guy's question. on The Last Games You'd Play? · · Score: 1

When I first read the question I was looking forward to clicking on "Comments" and seeing what fellow slashdotters considered "Cant Miss!" titles.
When I got here I quickly noticed there are almost no posts with actual suggestions of games, browsing through the comments at +3.

Even though its late a few ideas popped into my head.

    In no particular order:

    System Shock 2 (PC)
    Thief (PC)
    Rez (Dreamcast or PS2)
    Okami (PS2)
    ChronoTrigger (SNES)

Looking back over the years, those titles quickly spring to mind as some of the games I've ever played.

    Best of luck!

  5. I hate to say this, but... on Thief 3 Website Goes Live · · Score: 2, Insightful

... Looking Glass Studio's were the folks who gave life to Thief, as well as the equally amazing System Shock series. I can't help but wonder what this game will be like without the ingenious developers who brought the FPS genre to new heights?

  6. Whats the big deal? on Internet Users Are More Social Than Non-Users · · Score: 1

My question is, why does every one get so bent out of shape when there is a dupe posted?

Most of us (non-subscribers) arent paying to view this site, its not like our hard earned dollars are being spent to read duplicate news stories every day. Even then, how bad is it to notice the slip-up and hit the "Back" button?

  7. Re:illegal software producers? on Slashback: Gaping, Wristwear, Screenies · · Score: 1

I belive when they say 'illegal software producers', they are refering to the so called "release groups" that take freshly released software, remove cinema scenes and compress the sounds and music into mp3s to keep the size of their "release" small so its easier to manage on the Internet. Often parts of the game that were ripped are later released in seperate addons that can be downloaded later.

These groups often distribute their release to as many warez ftp sites as they can, as fast as they can. I mean, who want's to release Doom 3 four days another group did?

  8. Record of Lodoss War on Essential Anime · · Score: 1

RoLW has got to be some of the best Anime I have seen. I highly recommend it.

You can get the entire series on DVD, and it is much cheaper then the VHS version.

There is also a new spin-off on the original series, but I don't know much about it.

  9. A Few Topics Missing... on Mac OS 9 Versus Corel GNU/Linux At CNet · · Score: 1

Don't you think that a few very important topics where completely absent from the artical? For instance, Stability. When choosing an Operating System and/or platform, stability IS an important issue. And how about performance? Even when Linux is running a GUI like KDE or GNOME, it still requires MUCH less RAM then MacOS 9 with all the standard Extensions turned on. Not to mention the ambiguity in the "Internet Support" category. If they mean sheer ease of getting hooked up to the Internet, sure, I would say Mac could take that one. But really, in the general sense Linux is a much more useful Internet tool, since it works very well in both client and server situations. When is the last time you have been on a large website served on a Macintosh?
