"Almost correct" is someone being spineless.

I just measured the hight of a tree with a meter long chunk of 2x4 and a bubble protractor. I get a figure of 10 meters. How many feet is that? 32.808399 is not the right answer. Using it is likely to result in your shell missing the top of the tree. 30 is the right answer. Why?

Neither you nor you wife is correct, or incorrect either. Define what "correct" means and define the degree of incorrectness and precisely why it is incorrect.

Arithmatic is exact, the things you use it to model often are not. Modeling states and calculation of figures are two seperate acts and skills. They both need to be taught and understood.

Telling me that I'm stooopid is a personal attack; telling me my calculation is incorrect is a statement of fact. Folks need to learn that the latter statement isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Here I am with you 100%.

    Arguably Martin Landau's finest hour.

The first episode found me glued to the TV set. In part because, while it is hard to understand it in today's glut of sci-fi/fantasy "content," at the time a show like that really was something extraordinary, but in part because I've always liked Martin. One of the great underrateds; and I think his Oscar was as much a recognition of that fact as it was for the specific performance, which was wonderful.

I wonder what would have happened if he'd taken that "Spock" thingy?

It now seems obvious that this whole lawsuit was an attempt to delay Linux adoption by destroying Linux credibility in the marketplace.

Unfortunately I did not bookmark the page and cannot find it now, but back in the day Darl had a moment of candor during an interview and when asked why he filed the suit said (paraphrasing}:

"We were approached by outside parties who asked us to use the power of our license to help monitize Linux."

In his attempt to deflect bad feelings away from SCO he . . .told the truth. Just once.

This wasn't merely an attempt to discredit Linux, it was an attempt to "virally infect" it with propriatary code so that it could not be freely distributed.

Who those outside parties are was never named, but you can note who jumped up to pay SCO license fees of a million or more and draw your own conclusions. There were only two and it's interesting to note as well that one of those license fees almost exactly matched SCO's legal expenses up to that time; and I'm sure that the fact that these two licensees being the two that would most benefit from a "monitized" Linux was a complete coincidence.

...in a vacuum. When not in a vacuum, light can travel at a fraction of the speed of light.

Well no, not exactly. When not in a vacuum it takes rest stops which reduce its average speed, but when not taking rest stops it travels at the designated finite speed; because that's the only speed at which light can travel. There was this Maxwell guy who 'splained it.

You know about the pony express? Well, they had posts along the way to change horses. Let's say, for the sake of simplicity, that these posts were 15 miles apart and that the horses traveled at a finite speed of 15 miles per hour. When the horse is moving it is always going 15 miles per hour, but the average speed of the horses over a full day is 13 miles per hour because of the time it takes for the rider to change them on an hourly basis.

Light is like the Pony Express, only without the horses, which wouldn't be like the Pony Express at all, would it? That would just be some guy taking a walk.

    Nevermind.
