I liked the control system...it allowed for you to be running one direction (with the left joystick) while firing at the fat guys with explosives strapped to them (with the right joystick.)
Heh -- OT, but remember the game "Smash TV" that spun-off of The Running Man? You would win nice prizes and cash for blowing or burning the hell out of the hordes they sent to kill you.
Could this be like the old days of Fidonet where we were able to transmit email without having to pay access fees?
If we establish local 802.11b networks that connect to each other in every neighborhood, then we won't need ISPs. Of course, someone will have to pay for the bandwidth to the internet backbone eventually, right?
Now if we could only combine this with Geocaching...
I've hidden the cache at this coordinates on this companies network's NT server. Feel free to take warez from the cache, but be sure to put something back in return.
Agreed. Mason is an excellent way to make embedded perl a little easier to code. Not to mention the $session->{} hash that you can pass seemlessly between pages. I use it for the site in my.sig.
One thing I'd love to see is a subscription based service to search and read the whole O'Reilly library online. That would make my life soo much easier...
See my other post. In case you missed it, O'Reilly already has a service like this: Safari
They released a new version? I thought that there were six books in the original...I'll have to go back and check.
I do own this set and I must say, it's nice to have but the best part was that it came with Perl In A Nutshell in paper format. I have just about worn out that book. As nice as it is having the text in a searchable format, it's refreshing to pick up a big book and thumb through the pages.
BTW: Has anyone checkout out Safari? It's an O'Reilly website that allows you to "subscribe" to a set of books each month and search them online. Now if I could only get my company to buy into this...
Hybrids are on the way (hopefully sooner than later). Of course, when you see the grill of a large SUV on your ass getting 13mpg you realize that people will never change their habits unless we run out of oil.:^/
Wouldn't it be great if this article was about how to hack a toaster so that it could spam text pagers on a certain frequency? That would be a good read. Aside from the FCC violations that is.
Speaking of that, I stumbled into a 'game' put in place by the makers of the movie. If you watch the trailer online, you'll notice this name in the credits:
Jeanine Salla: Sentient Machine Therapist
Using a Google search on that name will launch you into a murder mystery game that spans multiple websites, locations and telephone numbers. Very cool marketing idea -- better than Blair Witch.
Check out this site for more information: Cloudmakers.
The majority of people aside from Slashdot'ers, and those involved with some form of computing related work, are searching for things on sites like Yahoo.

Same thing, I know, but I prefer to search for things without all of the bells and whistles.
Yes, marketing sucks -- especially when it comes down to writing your own contracts.
I've been with a consulting company for almost 6 years now and besides having them get my next contract, it's also get nice benefits like paid LOA, vacation time, pay when there is no work, health and dental benefits and (most importantly) paid training.
It takes a special individual to go in to business for themselves -- and that individual is not me.
I can't remember where I found that -- it may have even been here on/.
It kinda makes you want to start checking those referer logs, eh? I found once that was looking for 'priceless pissing'. No clue how they ended up on my site!
I had a little bit of trouble getting used to the interface to pick up weapons and what-not. And as always, the AI players just run up and get shot leaving you to crawl around to each bloody corpse and pick up whatever ammo you can find.
I can't wait to see this multiplayer -- perhaps they will implement something like "RogerWilco" so we can have voice communications instead of pre-made responses like "incoming enemy."
It works OK on the Playstation as the directional keys are very similar (and the same orientation) of the function keys.

Someone should draft the "Darwin Web Awards" for those sites that we are happy to see leave the web gene pool.
--
True. There will be some areas that are out of reach. Of course, Sysops were paying for the line for us to dial in on too.
--
Err...I suppose until the whole network was up. For a while, there will be some pretty isolated areas outside of radio range.

New sport! I call dibs!

I can finally say Slashdot sucks! Oh wait...did I post that AC?

You know, I would love to watch this sort of competition on television. Anyone up for making GTV - Geek Television?

All I remember is running out of ammo and searching every chest to find some, only to find "Sauerkraut" or "Bratwurst".

Yes! Bubble Bobble was one of my favorite Nintendo (8bit) games despite it's cutesy graphics and music.
