Anyone have ideas how this will impact on TROTW? i mean contaraty to/.s general slant, and as i keep commenting, the world does not consist of US alone, and "those pesky Canadians" they sometimes mention:P but then i believe a good solution to the worlds problems would be bombing the headquarters of any company with over 10 000 employees...send my greetz to the US goverment..:P

I'm at UTS in Sydney, Australia, 2nd year... The first language we were taught was Eiffel (which i'm sure most of u NEVER heard of)... In my opinion its PERFECT for 1st language, and this is why:
1. Layout is part of the specification - if u do spagetti, u lose marks because u aren't following the spec 2. It's completely, absolutely and from the ground up OO. And it's taught in such a way that people who can't be GOOD programmers won't pass
What i mean is that anyone with half a brain can learn C (our 2nd language btw), but first we weed out the ppl that can't understand concepts like inheritance, polymorphism etc.. which seperates the Derek Smarts from the John Romeros:P and once we understand the processes BEHIND programming we can learn RealWorld (tm) stuff like C without it fucking up our programming styles:)

having these movies online is a Good Idea (tm) but i agree with what most ppl have been saying, the net effect on piracy will be zero... as for the format, it would be much better if they posted them as.mpgs rather than some propriatary format (FakeVideo eg) but not likely - after all they'll get sponsored like everyone else... perhaps they just should upload them to a few select DCC-bots:P

Poor american sods.... I'm at UTS in Sydney, Australia, 2nd year CS.... When we started off i'm quite sure about 50% of us were girls, and altho a few more of them dropped out than guys, most are still here.... Sadly, most of them aren't really geeks, more like the "here for the money/parent pressure" types, but then plenty of the guys are that as well.... BTW our course starts out with a COMPULSORY camping trip about 2 weeks before classes start, so ppl can get to know each other first, which is the BEST idea - see if u can spread it....
