  1. Media One on Television That Watches You · · Score: 1

As a native of Detroit, as long as Media One sticks with this, with Comcast I may be safe. Of course, I think Media One is now owned by Comcast...

However, if it is a separate company, again I am safe.

If it does come to pass, we'll just have to find a way around it, should be easy enough; that kind of stuff fails all the time.

  2. I see people kill in movies. I don't kill. on Doom Causes Kid to Kill · · Score: 1

Tis true. If someone is messed up enough to ambush people as they come out of praying... all the game will do is give them the method, but the desire was there looong before.

  3. Tapes vs. Cd's on "MP3 death watch" article on CNN.com · · Score: 1

The only reason the CD may give better quality is because the CD player never touches the media; as with the tape player, there the record/play head touches the magnetic tape. After a few hundred plays, the CD will sound better. But not at first.
Also, the CD is digital, which means that it is sampled, which means you always lose a part of the original sound source. The tapes are analogue, which gives you all of the original. If only someone would invent an optical analogue sound recorder/player... nice project for an EE?

I must agree that MP3 is growing. About the same quality as a CD, but at a fraction of the space used by other formats.

  4. On Capitalism....or what the US calls capitalism. on Commercial Open-Source Software · · Score: 1

Hey, Anonymous Coward, if you think you can do better, go right ahead. That's how MS got started. It's why there are cars to burn oil that the oil companies make, Henry Ford thought he could build seomthing better than horse drawn carriages. That's the innovation and risk taking being refered to.

  5. What's he trying to sell and to whom? on Wired on Kipling · · Score: 1

How much you guys want to bet that a whole bunch of people who live in trailer parks file a class-action suit against Kipling for that comment?

How much you want to bet that the judge doesn't laugh them out of the courtroom?

  6. Red Hat on The Anoraks' New Clothes · · Score: 1

I chose Red Hat because I wanted something somewhat painless to install and I wanted to... but since I can't get all the chicks, I guess I'll have to move to Debian. Can't really comment on the SuSE thing, though. I'm more of a metal/industrial guy myself.

Come on, people, it's a ZD publication... don't expect too much from it.

  7. Inevitable... on Internet Taxes Likely · · Score: 1

Right now, sales tax is only paid for mail order if the buyer lives in the same state as whoever is selling. That's how this tax should work, too.

BTW, what the hell is "e-commerce"? It's just like mail order... why come up with some silly name?

  8. Other types of hacking gear... on Typical Misinterpretation Of "Hacker" · · Score: 1

I imagine that most "hacking gear" would be purchased at the surplus stores. It may not have "Abercrombie" plastered all over it, but who gives a damn? Besides, it's dirt cheap and lasts forever.

  9. Almost arrested because of this crap! on Typical Misinterpretation Of "Hacker" · · Score: 1

Damn... and I thought I was unlucky when I and my car were searched for not having insurance. Of course, maybe here in Detroit the cops are a little overcautious, eh?
