In about 3-5 years after a lengthy legal process involving the US Superior Court, they will be allowed to proceed with their legal defense, which of course will be completely torpedoed by the fact that the prosecution will introduce any and all evidence as "top secret", so the defense team will not be able to counter any of them. Most corporations deep down really want quiet subservient people who go to work every day, keep secrets, keep their mouth shut, don't complain and don't organize to get better wages and benefits. Multinational execs in China might get upset with China's rules if they interfere with their SMS traffic but I wager China is being selective and not putting this filtering on foreign executives phones.
There is another connection here. These multinationals, almost all based in the US, are happy to supply all tools to the Chinese government to spy on its citizenry. Constitution and Human Rights be damned when we are talking about contracts in the billions of USD.

It is ironic, that the true totalitarian society is going to be built on the backs of "free" world enterprises, which are happy to support oppression as long as there is profit. This is where the input does not have details, but the output does... As we both know it is impossible to pull out "details" form one's ass, so this kind of tech is dubious at worst and transparent at best.

I have something similar on my panny amp, it resamples CD audio to 192 kHz and "invents" 3 new values. It does not do harm, but to claim that "dramatically" enhances the sounds is plain marketing (ie. lie). I need to point out that your selection criteria should include multiple firewire ports, and firewire controllers on both the drive and ant the server end. Should add only marginal cost to your setup.

I have a maxtor FW single HDD backup solution, but I definitely would not recommend that particular one for constant on situation (for lack of ventillation). It seems that when the drive does the temp calibration the FW insterface hiccups, and the ongoing transfer gets interupted. All is well after diconnection and reconnection. I only notice it when I am doing unison on very large directories (30+GB), but if you would serve files off of it, you might be getting into trouble as well.

Other issue with FW is bandwitdh. I am getting about 40-50MBps which is enough for sustained transfers, but the drive would be capable to 100MBps in burst (short files cached on the drive). This might be detrement to the file server performance.

I do have to say that I quite like the idea of having 4-6 external FW (or better FW800) disks hooked up, and running a virtual RAID5. This way the failed disk would be very easily hot-swapped. And might even be much cheaper than having hot-swap support backplane/chassy/server.

Several of the non-SLR digital cameras are serious tools as you put it, and get close or even surpass the photo quality of an Canon Digital Rebel (especially the poorly maintained ones, with dust in the innards).

While there are a large number of digital cameras which are not any better than the point and shoot, there are several ones, which are just as good as SLR for most cases.

Think of high-end Nikon, Sony and Olympus, etc. Any of which is generally more portable than a SLR with 1-2 lenses. (Ie. you don't need a backpack to lug it all around)

BTW, I think Nikon D70 got better ratings than Canon Digital Rebel. It is true that Canon beat everyone to be the fist digital SLR in the 1k range, but now ther is choices, especially if you consider +10% pricerange.

    Just my 2 cents.

I have most of my music ripped to 256 CBR and emusic has 192 avg CBR. Only thing holding me back from reripping the whole shebang in lossless is the fact that it would grow to about 6X to about 200GB.
