IANAL, but if Microsoft wishes to prevent people from using free software to develop on their SDK, they probably can. You can either abide by their rules, use free software and hope you don't get caught, or just don't use their SDK. Since it's their SDK, they get to control how it's used. Although it seems extreme, and it -should- be illegal, I wouldn't count on them getting sued anytime soon...
running even at 1635x768 on a 61" would seemingly be worse than what, 800x600 on a 19-21"???
if i'm going to have a screen that's physically big, it had BETTER be able to let me run lots and lots of programs without minimizing...forget VIRTUAL desktops, i want to see all of them at once!
Yes, yes, I know, HS is different from college, but from my experiences, I'd just about like to scream. During my 9th grade year (which was last year), I did a lot of help doing network-related stuff, fixing workstations, whatever needed to be done. All of this was done gratis, I was just trying to help out. Of course, I found out a lot of neat things in the course of my workings (eg. numerous security holes), and being a good little student I reported them as appropriate, and they were never fixed. This year, after a 'tightening' of the security software (Novell ZENWorks, bah), I found that I could open an arbitary application known as 'Windows Explorer' (EVIL!;), simply by hitting Windows Key+E. And you know what? They got all over me, and said that because I did that, I would have access to every single item on their network, and that I could destroy everything. Not only is this completely untrue, this is coming from the people I HELPED OUT the year earlier. And this is not to mention almost getting the boot when I sent a Netware message to the person beside me one day... it's crazy, to say the least.

Ironically, look at the/. post RIGHT before this one, and it's "AOL/Transmeta/Gateway Internet Appliance Launch". So wow, one Internet Appliance dies, and we have another stepping in already. I don't think the IA business is going away, it's just moving a lot faster than other tech businesses (which, IMHO, is pretty damn fast).
At the place I attend High School (I'm a sophmore), the administration is VERY tight about security when it comes to that. In fact, they are very cautious about computers in general, as I almost got the boot when I opened up Explorer. I've been tempted to go and do this (requesting log files), but figured I would be turned away instantly. Basically our school is racist against geeks. Anyway, I'm hoping I can use this case to my advantage to perform a similar feat. It'd be fun just to start a little debate, even.
No...I think they were smiling all the time. But I'm positive that was at least 5 years ago, so I could be mistaken. I don't think Lego came out with the non-smiling technology until a few years ago.
I can remember (back in the day, of course), when I had almost EVERY little Star Wars thingy that Lego came out with. Can't remember the name of the series, but it was great.
But really, when is someone going to do this with Mindstorms? Especially the flying objects?
to www.top500.org, since when I when there it had obviously been slashdotted. Wouldn't you just about need 8192 CPUs to keep of with the torrential/. DDOS?;P ---
If you are open minded enough to listen to both sides, they both sound good by themselves. I see the same thing here. Mr. Gates's memo explained some well pointed flaws in Linux and the open source community, and obviously he has done his research on sourceforge.net and various other sources. However, Mr. Gordon's response to Gates's article brings up some positive qualities about open source and freedom. But focusing on Gate's memo, the man has a point, contrary to how much every open source person hates him. IMHO, the whole thing about KDE being 'tainted' by QT is just ridiculous. It's going to be this kind of 'It all has to be free as in speech' attitude that will tear the open source community apart. Linux is great, I use it a lot, but I also use Windows. And lately, I've encountered more bugs in X Windows such as windows not redrawing correctly, than blue screens and screen anomalies in Windows. And just to prove my point about the open source mentality, I can almost GUARANTEE that this post will get mod'ed down. Sure, when Microsoft goes and writes an negative article about Linux, we all get huffy-puffy about it and slam Microsoft, and then we turn around and point out all the problems with Windows. Is the Linux/open source community so dillusional that they see Linux as the 'perfect OS'?
Yea, it's NOT posted as AC, because it's what I believe in. If anything, I can always for lowest possible karma. ---
If you actually stop long enough to look at the game, it can be broken down into logical steps. A friend of mine (who is 15) has beaten minesweeper on Beginner skill in 7 seconds, and it a few minutes can conquer it on expert. I can see the troubles with the minesweeper problem, however. My friend has been in situations with 2 blocks left and neither of us could find any 'clues' to help us figure out the location of the last mine. In retrospect I think it's just impossible, that we had to miss something or the other, but it always lingers in my mind that under certain circumstances there is not enough information provided by the game to solve it right. Giving up all the Microsoft-bad-coding-practices crap, I believe the game was designed to be able to be beaten no matter what. They proclaim that every game of solitaire can be beaten, which as I think about it is also a sort of "NP" problem. If I knew how to program decently, I think I know enough about the game to write a "solving program" for it.
"Today at 0600 hours, the FBI conducted raids on over 300 apartments of 'hackers.' These 'hackers' are alleged users of the satanic 'Linux' operating system created by an evil Finnish computer pirate. The FBI seized computers, printouts of articles from slashdot.org, and pictures of Natalie Portman. When asked about his opinion on Microsoft, one of the victims of the raid said 'Microsoft is the antichrist!' and was promptly beaten by 3 security guards. Next up, see how the technology industry is dealing with these evil computer terrorists, and what is being done to stop the main flow of destruction into their minds: slashdot.org, a dreadfully satanic site promoting 'free software,' and the destruction of companies which can't code..."

A long long time ago I got 100 Imation disks for free ($20 for 50, $20 mail in rebate) and haven't experienced -any- trouble with them. Yes, I carry them around in my back pocket and have even sat down then and cracked one, but the data remained secure. Also, they are one of the few companies to produce 12x CDR media, and have (IMHO) the best (if not cheapest) CDR(W)s on market today. And this is from the company that makes tape. (3M) ---

8th grade history project (in 10th grade now):
Used WinQoole to recreate famous historical landmarks, such as Lincoln Memorial and Washington monument. Changed Axe to a small primitive knife, shotgun to...well, a different shotgun (Mind you, this was before the big school shootup stuff)
8th grade science project:
We had to make a toothpick bridge (*yawn*) and instead of drawing it out on paper (lame) I made a Quake level and took screenshots...naturally the Quake modem held a LOT more weight than the actually toothpicks did...

I don't know why I always come up with solutions for porn stopping programs so easily (motivation?), but all internet sites would really have to do is make a script-fu program to rotate the palette, make a negative of the image, etc. Am I right?
Yea, I know what you mean about having a 3000. I use it everyday! I doubt zxLinux will have support for it at all, if it even makes it to the US. I haven't found any program like ZAP to download the address book and everything, but by using the terminal program on the Zaurus without a phone number, you can set up a direct connection using Minicom or the like. It supports a lot of different transmission protocols. Of course, you have to send your stuff in Documents to PC Files and vice-versa, but hey it works just about better than the windoze software!
You raise an interesting point. Sure, this service might make things easier for a lot of people, but what about patenting stupid stuff like "1 click"? You shouldn't just be able to patent and sell just any term you like. Hopefully there will be (or are) some restrictions on http://pl-x.com to prevent this kind of thing.
