Either have the mod be a parody or you can make it a comment of some facet of popular culture.
The mod is a work of art much the way that Warhol used soup can labels.
"The second thing was that the directors had an annoying habit of introducing some plot element--the explosive nature of a pre-spice mass, for instance--with an offhand comment that wasn't explained for half an hour or more. "
It's not good book writing, but it is good screenwriting.
In screenwriting, it is beneficial to sometimes put some "what the fuck was that about?" scenes to keep the viewer engaged in the story as long as it becomes clear later. The whole pre-spice mass thing is a good example of that.
on anime. I remember it like a million years ago. I was walking through school and in one of the classrooms these 4 guys were watching a movie on a tv. It was animated. But it sure wasn't disney. It wasn't in English and I couldn't understand anything that went on, but it was sure cool to watch.
No movie since has given me the same "Akira" feeling. "Ghost in the Shell" naw. "Mononoke" close.
Everything else is just friggin fighting robots and tentacle rapists. CRAP!
I can't believe that they're starting to analyze the political geography of Florida and others. It's insane. The vote could be decided by absentee vote.
Too insane.

"Therefore, if winner-take-all is good and should be maximized the best system would be: POPULAR MAJORITY VOTE.
If, however, winner-take-all is bad and should be minimized then the best system would be: POPULAR MAJORITY VOTE. "
But, isn't the point of districting to maximize the value of the individual vote? The point you make is that a district of one and a district of all makes each vote equally worthless.
Winning solely by popular vote would be like winning the World Series by runs.
To win the World Series, you need to win games. To win the presidency, you need to win states.
Without the electoral college, a candidate could just go with one dividing issue and win on that. Things as they are, candidates have to travel from state to state and discuss a variety of issues.
Anything that makes it harder for the candidates is a good thing in my book.

The innovation is in making 3d animation without having to wait Pixar-like lengths of time for it to render.
In a game engine, the animation is rendered real time. The real innovation would be to use the gestures and models for a sort of real-time vr puppetry.
Then, you'll soon approach the stuff you got in "Diamond Age."
"For example, we got a USB burner at work, and we tried to hook it up to a Mac running the latest MacOS. Guess what, to be able to use it, you have to reboot with all extensions turned off, EVERY TIME YOU WANT TO USE IT. "
That's true in my experience. The driver is crappy. Luckily, Mac OS allows for many different os configs. I have a different extension set for cd burning than for regular use(plus, another set for game playing). Until they make a better driver for the burner, that's how it's going to have to be.
If you pay somebody, you can prove anything. Now the researchers have a book out and go on speaking tours. They basically created the research to make money.
Don't get me started on Manhattan. I used to live there. Giuliani's just about made Manhattan a theme park for rich people to live in.
When we couldn't afford to live in Manhattan, we moved to Brooklyn. Now, Starbucks and Barnes&Nobles is popping up on every other corner of Brooklyn.
Me? I totally sold out. Got a tech job and bought a condo in Jersey. Sure, it's noble to be a starving artist and eschew crass materialism, but there's no future in it. So, I got all Tyler Durden and live on swedish furniture.
"last time I checked, the housing market was open in SF to whoever could afford it"
That's exactly it. Few native San Franciscans can afford it anymore. And those dot-commers don't care about the neighborhoods they live in. Damn gentrification!
I'm not sure, but 2040 is like a complete redo of the original BGC series. It has the same characters and some new ones. But, I don't think they acknowledge the other series in any way. You can find out more from the distributor , ADV.

"Does anyone recall a book from the late 70's early 80's that had a title something like 'Atlas of Alien Anatomy'? "
Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials.
"This mini series is a blasphemy."
Isn't ironic that your comment should be about a work that is critical of religious hierarchies?
Oh, hell yeah, Chani did have a nice rack!

Okay, so the sets were nothing but a big pile of sand with giant wall sized photos. Also, I hated the freaking outrageous big hats.
The acting was passable.
I like the fact that they did try to include more of the novel than the Lynch pic did. And the kung fu fighting! Woo hoo!

Vogon Accelerator.
So, they could make their "documentary" Life Afterlife!
Read it here.

With wireless stuff, you could admin the network from anywhere.

Wasn't that an Illuminatus card?

So, basically, you're saying that it failed because it didn't run Windows.

How about the largest Minefields game ever?

Sci-fi is big with nerds. Nobody seemed to mind hearing anything about Star Wars or Trek.
As a nerd, isn't D&D and Tolkien part of your geek heritage, too?
All work and no play makes Eugene a dull boy!
