  1. Re:Macs running Netscape? on Microsoft Loses · · Score: 1

"Macs running Netscape? Yeah, lets give power to two new big bastads - Apple and AOL. Both known for their bad business tactic, I'd personally avoid both."

The irony being that they both are also guilty of what microsoft tried to do with windows, make the internet seamless with the OS.

Apple even admits it with their iTools and Sherlock stuff.

  2. e-media is too disposable on Copyright Comments Redux · · Score: 1

The problem I have with e-books, mp3s, mpeg video, etc. is that it's all electronic. How do you expect it to survive your hard drive? If you upgrade every three years, are we supposed to be expected to reload all these things too? What happens if you have to format your drive? Magnetic media doesn't have a very good life expectancy. Am I expected to pay each time I read, hear, or watch this stuff if I don't feel like creating the storage to keep it?

  3. Re:This can be a good thing on Geek Profiling: The Next W.A.V.E. · · Score: 1

The problem of troubled people needing help is what led me to join the Stephen Ministry program at my church. It provides a one on one helping relationship with people seeking help. It is possible that something like this could have helped to prevent some of the school shootings we've seen in the media in the last year.

It's too late for you. You're one of THEM! You have already been assimilated. The body has been snatched. Donald Sutherland screams that inhuman scream and you come 'helping' people to their custom-made pod.

  4. Re:Violent Movies on Oscar Wrapup (American Beauty and The Matrix win) · · Score: 1

"Braveheart had tons o' violence and swept that year. Same goes for Dances With Wolves. (Don't get me wrong, I loved both of those movies). I don't think there's a direct correlation between amount of violence and chances of getting Oscars."

ahh. historical violence isn't real violence. it's educational. fantasy violence is from the debbil.

  5. Brechtian on Oscar and Interactivity · · Score: 1

It sounds like he's talking about Bertold Brecht. This was like a hundred years ago. Brecht was all about changing the relationship between the performer and the audience, too.

  6. Re:Oscars. on Oscar Wrapup (American Beauty and The Matrix win) · · Score: 1

"And all we care about is where they're wearing. *sigh* A sad state of affairs."

The first and sometimes only reason to watch the Oscars is for the cleavage.

  7. Re:Yankee go home. on The Internet is America-centric, But for How Long · · Score: 1

    I love that movie.

  8. Re:"Where's the money?" is the question.... on Do Geeks Have a Political Voice? · · Score: 1

Steve Case, in part due to his proximity to DC, owns a few Congressmen. Maybe not a geek proper, but head of a big techno-empire. joel

  9. Re:Why should the next be exempt? on New Federal Government Stance on Internet Taxes · · Score: 1

"Not taxing net sales, will only mean longer, higher taxation on non-net sold goods" Perhaps, non-net stores should consider getting on the net. After all, any business that doesn't have a net presence is doomed anyway. Additionally, the owner of any business gets taxed on his income whether or not he sells over the net. joel

  10. Re:Scrolls on Middle Media · · Score: 1

"... And we still have scrolls for some functions " It's funny you should mention scrolls. I went down to Epcot where they had a sample swatch of of electronic paper. Flexible display. You roll it up like a scroll. It's funny, when it's turned off, it looks like tv "snow." joel

  11. Re:Finally! on Anti-Spam law Passed in Colorado · · Score: 1

University students usually get their access via the University. So, I think the University counts as an ISP not a spammer. It's a definite opt-in situation. joel

only 37.5 hours a week. No more than 40. I do NT at work. For a home computer, I have an iMac. That way I am never tempted to bring work home. I enjoy my evenings and weekends watching tv and playing Unreal Tournament.
