  1. Push Technologies and Site Specific Marketing on Satellite Radio Coming Soon(?) · · Score: 1

Would be nice to get small niche news delivered, such as minor-pro hockey or baseball, as well as maybe a way to get advertising based on the specific location you are in.

This would be better accomplished by regional companies. It would be smarter for them to provide the bandwidth only and not exclusive content.

I am down for an L-Box when they come around, but I think the key to their success is not trying to play in the same game as the big boys.

Grab a niche market and don't try to market it as a world savior. Advertising money is better spent on making sure the doors are open tomorow. Its not like Slash wont do enough marketing just to take care of the basics.

Oh, and I cant wait for VI 2001.

I have noticed that the phrase, "open some of the code", is becoming common place in press lately. Obviously this is a key to the future of exceptence of the open source model. I would rather have a bit to work with then nothing.

I dont like the fact that by owning stock in the online service, the percentage of money the record company ends up with is even more. Artists should look to get a larger share since Festival Mushroom Group is ending up with more money overall.

Darn, I was looking forward to picking up some Festival Mushroom Group artists music while I was down in Australia.

  13. Usefull Goals on Artificial Intelligence IRC Bots? · · Score: 1
Ok, IRC may have been mentioned but lets just throw that right out the window. A usefull idea behind this would be an interacitve FAQ bot. Basicaly you ask it a question and it gives you a reply based on a query through a DB of answers. When certain people are online, officials from a group or company, it watches what people ask and their response and learns. If you ask it. "How do I install linux?" it notes that there are 1 million answers with "install linux" in them and asks the user to make his/her question more specific.

Generic PR bots could be made along the same concept. A small company could then have a 24 hour support and PR line with out having to man it the whole time to answer very simple questions.

The only thing is that most of this is already in place. Just take it off IRC, make an independent solution that embeds into web pages and your set.

  18. No one needs to profit from distribution. on China and the MPA · · Score: 1
I guess the way to handle it would be to develop an organization that is non profit. No one person needs to make excesive money off another persons abilities. The rewards of one should reflect his contributions. The Artist makes his or her share. While a percent goes to the non profit distributer to pay its employee's. The difference is that the Artist would get the larger $ share and also have the top level ability to manage what is done with their work.

The same works for software. Sites such as Freshmeat.net dont need to profit from each of its software listings to stay around. It is a gateway to the works of others. Thats the same thing I think any sort of distribution organization should be.

  19. Software laws on China and the MPA · · Score: 2

I can understand for it to be illegal to duplicate hardware, but the point of software is to take advantage of hardware and use it. Its simple, if you dont want anyone duplicating DVD's dont make DVD-R's. If they do refuse to make a recordable media type for a certain technology. That technology will simply become obsolete. As for hard drive copies, is it now illegal to have a mental pictures? The most important way to handle this would be for the Artist's to form their own distribution companies and take the Media giants out of the picture. Sell your song, movie or picture. Forget worrying about what its released on, because that just limits your market.

  20. Open Space on On to Mars · · Score: 1

I propose an OpenSpace project. We use current technolgies to get simple probes into space and those probes relay their findings back for distributed research.
These probes can be launched in modern rockets untill the OpenSpace project can work to build its own vehicals. Just look at the Russian space program, they have usefull rockets that can be used to put OpenSpace probes into the skies on a regular basis with limited complications.

We can launch multiple probes that act as a satellite network around Mars and the Moon to get us important information necesary to take the next step in maned missions. We then launch simple bouyes between here and those distant planets to improve the quality of our transmitions. These bouyes will be fully equiped to accept equipment being connected to them incase of emergencies on future maned missions.

An effective moon base would be nothing more then a box that is able to sustain life. To expand the base we simply send another box. During the early years through the lease of these facilities for private industry research we finance a construction facility to send to the moon along with launch facilities. Once the premeir launch and construction facility is on the moon we can concentrate on reusable human transport ships. Leasing the use of these construction and launch facilities to private industry pays for the next step, a maned mission to mars.

To get this off the ground it would take the investment of a few of the worlds rich and work with private industry. By including distributed research into this project via the probes it would spark the intrest of nerds abroad. The research can be beautified and brought to the general public.

$500 million would be all thats needed to start such an effort. Then through the sale of the rights to certain findings, future probes could be launched. All it would take is one probe to get this started.

As of right now I put out a request to the rich people of the world. Funding this will make you a lot more successfull then an extra $10 million.

50 people giving $10 million would fund the whole operation.

I'll put a website up soon for it.
