Its http://www.vividas.com/ new high compression broadcast quality streaming format - expect to see it crop up all over - the player is ultra small and the quality is very good.

I have a high speed dsl connection (1.5Mbps), and I have never seen streaming video work with anything like watchable quality

You would if you had allowed it to install the tiny plugin. They claim its broadcast quality, and they are not far wrong (unless you are on dial up ;).

(though part of that is because I have a high resolution screen, and the embedded viewers won't let you resize it up to more than a postage stamp).

I chose the high res and it jumped to 1024x768 (which is my desktop size)

If I can't download something of reasonable quality and then watch it for real, then there's no point in wasting the bandwidth trying.

If you have the bandwith there is no point in not trying :)

They are selling their vieweing services to everybody, so perhaps they would make a new format for that?

Now. I run linux. So I can't watch this "teaser".

But it mentions Linux on their support page? Granted they say its in test phase, but apparently it works with wine under Debian, Red hat, Suse.
