Most companies never try to make something great (Apple being one exception, at least they try), most companies wants to make it as cheaply and as crappily as they can get away with. ie, getting away with = what people will still pay for.

Whilst calling Intel's offering crap might be too harsh, it was never promising or exciting, just their own little closed eco system. If we could get TV's running Honeycomb where you could sideload Apk's - you'd see such a TV system take of quickly, because all of the things they can't be bothered to add, or don't have the vision to add will be added by the army of dedicated manics out there programming freeware.

  10. I think that is a bad idea on Opera Proposes Switching Browser Scrolling For 'Pages' · · Score: 2

The whole point of the WWW was that it was supposed to be resolution independent - I know a lot of people have forgotten that, alas, since it makes the web more accessible for everybody if you can adjust font sizes.

My eyes aren't what they used to be and I would like a bigger font (and even if you can't imagine it YOU will also be in that situation sooner than you think) - if they lock down font size to get pages that would be bad for accessibility.

But you say, they could reflow and recalculate it. Yes, the could, but then what is the point of "pages" it would still be a long page with artificial breaks.

Plus there is nothing more annoying on the new 'generate as we fly using javascript' pages that you can't search for content.

    This is a bad idea.

    tl;dr, version:

Online shops already have a lot fewer expenses, if they don't have to pay sales tax like brick and mortar stores have to, those stores close. Less tax is paid, there is less money to run a decent human society and you are fucked (unless you are one of the rich who doesn't give a crap about ordinary people)

Oh, and clearly Amazon is not in favor of this, evidently they are in favor of paying no taxes anywhere, because they don't care that much about supporting society, beyond selling people crap they probably don't need.
