  1. being a geek on More Stories From The Hellmouth · · Score: 1

i am a survivor. better than that, i have grown. the web is the home of all of us who were different, who wouldnt easily fit into the neat little boxes in high school, jock, teen queen....the popular kids are lost in middle managment now, scared of the future. they have little dreams......
we dream BIG dreams involving no horizons. they are bounded by theirs. we are free, and have worlds to explore.
    i pity them now.
we, my geek partner and i, are raising 3 girls who wont fit into any little box. they have far horizons to explore.
at times its a long hard journey..but the rewards can match it...
hang in there, any of you still suffering through school. we all make it home:)
there are huge groups of us out there. the geek WILL inherit the earth. it will be a hell of a lot nicer place for it, too:)

  2. This is really stupid people on The Public & The Internet: Open Forum · · Score: 1

try being a parent sometime. an incredibly hard, ndervalued and undersupported role in the western world. we do the best we can. harsh economic times ofetn mean two parents HAVE to work. we talk to our girls all the time. we respect and like them, and make sure they know how loved and valued they are.
but i have known ideal parents whose kids turn into criminals and waste their lives, or worse, destroy others.
i came from a broken home, and like many, havent used that as an excuse to stop me from doing the best i can, and being happy.
and happiness doensnt have to come at the expense of others - a little known fact.
    *sigh*
some people are born broken, others become broke.
some dogs are born vicious, some are formed that way, through cruelty or indifference.
its too easy to lay blame.
and dont forget..those parents have lost their children, and have to live with the pain and guilt of their actions.

  3. blame to avoid change on The Public & The Internet: Open Forum · · Score: 1

its easier to look for something to lay blame on quickly (and preferably something 'newsy'), than to try to solve the problem. from an outsiders point of view, the US gun laws are a miracle of insanity. formed when militias were needed as there was no army, to deal with colonial opression, you now have a situation where kids are given booties and guns at birth!= slight exageration for effect - i hope!
we have only (thankfully) had a very limited experience with mass random(ish) shootings in australia..and the last one led to incredibly tighter gun laws, despite the nra and gun lobbies having kittens.
    look for solutions not scapegoats.

actually, ppp is easier to setup when using ANY gui....
whether windows or kde or afterstep!
having said that, i noted the difference between stup on afterstep (approx 2 mins less than a win setup)
    and kde (5-10 mins less)
(and none of this *(^&*^&P rebooting every step of the process, either..i didnt include the reboots in the time thing, btw!)
now, i have set up so many windows dial ups for friends who just cant do it...but they all got the kde setup i showed em..
people dont want windows, they want an easy to use system, with a great gui...
sounds like linux to me..the o/s with a CHOICE (windows != choice) of guis....
