Ya pain in the ass, but basically they are saying "we will provide this service as long as you obey the rules". Put stuff where it doesn't belong and your service should be stopped. You figure out what to do with your own garbage - you created it after-all, it is your responsibility not the responsibility of the rest of us.

  2. Re:Job killing sales tax. on Bipartisan Internet Sales Tax Bill Introduced · · Score: 1

Rent is still taxes as income for the person that receives it. Whether the tax is placed before the price is advertised or after is unimportant. Wrong again.

  3. Re:Job killing sales tax. on Bipartisan Internet Sales Tax Bill Introduced · · Score: 1

The poor are forced to spend almost all (if not all) of their income on necessities. The amount of sales tax they will pay, expressed as a percentage of their income, will be vastly higher than that of a person making over $100k/yr. This makes it a regressive tax.

eg. (say sales tax of 10%)
    Poor person: Income: $15,000
    Spending: $13,636
    Sales Tax: $1,363
Sales Tax as % of income: 9.1%

    Rich person:
    Income: $100,000
    Spending: $60,000 (say)
    Sales Tax: $5,454
Sales Tax as % of income: 5.5%

Luxury taxes and removing taxes from necessities can mitigate this, but sales tax is by definition a regressive tax. Please do your homework before posting

  4. Clawbacks on End Bonuses For Bankers · · Score: 1

The answer is clawbacks. Let the bankers share in the liabilities and losses they cause by the risks they take. The current system rewards profit, but does not punish loss - therefore incentivizing extremely risky positions and creating massive systemic risk.

  5. Re:Job killing sales tax. on Bipartisan Internet Sales Tax Bill Introduced · · Score: 1

Taxing sales rather than income tends to promote savings, (which I think is a good thing)

It penalizes those who cannot afford to save (the poor) and assists those who already save a significant portion of their income (the rich). Sales tax is a regressive tax - I prefer income tax, even a flat income tax is better than sales tax.

That's like saying "if noone else shows up to the marathon, I can come in first!" The "decidetely non-capitalistic government" was the only large entity in existence, therefore it MUST have done the vast majority of ecological damage.

Your example therefore has no bearing on anything, other than to state that "faced with the lack of competitors, what remains must place 1st in all conceivable metrics".

I think they are all correct. Saying a trend is irreversible does not mean you are going to see the final effects of the trend immediately. Anyone who says "well the catastrophe hasn't happened yet, therefore they must be wrong" has a serious problem with logic.
