I think what we are getting at here is that Google's goals with Chrome is to raise the bar for all browsers. Ultimately they would love to see the native app die - this would leave them a single platform from which to launch all of their hundreds of products.
This isn't "reimage on boot". This is encrypted storage whereby the key is volatile. There is not performance problem here.
and to reply to OP, this tech really doesn't have as many uses are you say. It is really only useful for sensitive data. You can use it for/tmp, but there's really no point. Cleaning/tmp with software can be done pretty quickly - why buy expensive hardware?
Ya, and gizmodo probably has a score to settle with Apple after good ol' Steve had the Police ramsack the Editor's home -- AFTER he had returned the phone. Top that off with the fact that they are tech press, which just wants more page views and doesn't care about the truth, and you've got yourself a made-up email.
Considering that passwords are generally 8-12 characters long, I'd think yielding the CPU would take more resources then just checked the remaining x characters.
All these patent trolls make me want to just come out and make a list of "ideas" just to establish "prior art". So, say I think teleportation would be cool. The fact that I thought of it here will be prior art for anyone who invents it later and patents it.
So ya, I hearby already thought of teleportation. Any of you really smart physics majors out there thinking of inventing it, don't bother, its mine.
Altogether the writer is just talking out his ass. Gate's predictions compared to what has been realized in the past 15 years is open for a lot of interpretation. I went down that list and had almost exactly the opposite view for each item. Altogether, this article could have been written by a 5th grader and had just about as much merit.
How wrong you are. Open Wi-Fi is like an open window in your house - just because you leave the window open doesn't mean its okay for anybody to climb in and "have a look around".
Most people know that its generally a bad idea to have unsecured Wi-Fi, just as its a bad idea to leave your windows open in a bad neighborhood. One person's stupidity doesn't give another the right to take advantage.
Some European telecoms groups fear Google will reduce them to 'dumb pipes
This is exactly what a telecom company SHOULD be. They should concentrate on telecom and NOT on content.
One could almost argue that telecom companies ganging up on a company like Google is anti-trust - using an oligopoly in one industry to leverage another.

This type of malware was obvious from the beginning. My question is what would be the phone companies' response to this?
Will they;
a) just charge the user for the messages saying that they are SOL
b) void the charges

ditto parent. talking about "wasting" 6 cycles on a one off event (non-loop) is ludicrous.

Hanny's Voorwerp (meaning Hanny's object in Dutch)
explains why Voorwerps are so rare
I would have to disagree... "objects" are quite common.
This post makes me wish there wasn't a max 5 on the mod points. This should be way up there.

Here's a more accurate version: Anyone writing code that doesn't sanitize input needs to find a new line of work.

It is a side effect in some situations. Humans killing (read: driving to extinction) other species is no longer beneficial to our evolution.
Has anyone compiled a full list of their emails?

FSF is actively looking for people to contribute to any such project.
That would be fine, so long as you actually use that. To use the dot (.) for BOTH is just plain wrong.
