Exactly how was the internet built on the foundation of open source? Open source is all well and good, but you can't credit it for everything under the sun.
I think that government regulation could very well stamp out the freedom that the internet offers. Which is why it is my opinion that we should not be so quick to raise a ruckus about things like DeCSS, Napster, etc. The louder we crow about it, the more attention the corporations and governments are going to give it. Underground is the key, baby.
I have not seen the South Park movie, but "Blame Canada" did not strike me as particularly witty. The only funny parts of it were Robin Williams and the Mountie chorus line. Every other song nominated was so much better (even that horrible Randy Newman song)
In Jolie's case, possibly. Any respect she earned with the Oscar win is going to be flushed down the toilet if she goes through with making Tomb Raider.
PC's just aren't that expensive anymore. I have a p3/550 that I built last summer for under $1000. I can play the latest and greatest bleeding-edge games, and will be able to for at least another year.
I agree - backwards compatibility just isn't a selling point for most people. I also hope all these 733T W4reZ D00dZ realise that their collections of pirated games they rented from Blockbuster won't work on the PSX2
Have you bothered to look at the PSX2 screenshots??? Talk about underwhelming. I guarantee that the average person wouldn't be able to tell the difference between RR5 and Sega Rally 2. And what's this marvelous PSX2 game selection you're referring to? Ridge Racer 5 and Street Fighter? Yeah, that'll make me run out and buy an import. Whereas the DC has at least a dozen AAA titles
What DC hardware problems are you referring to? There were no significant hardware problems that I'm aware of. There were some faulty pressings of the launch titles, but those were solely software problems.
You'd be surprised - these things can actually increase in value. You may or may not remember the special edition of Ultima 6 which was signed by Lord British. I recently sold my copy on ebay for over $100. My copy of "Wing Commander: The Kilrathi Saga" went for $80. And the best one - a game (Worlds of Ultima: The Savage Empire) I picked up in a Wal-mart bargain bin for $5 a few years ago went for $150.
So yeah, there may be some value down the road to "collectors editions", even if you don't appreciate the added features now.

Maybe - Tron did for sure.
Apple is just as monopolistic as Microsoft, if not more so... they have a lockdown on BOTH hardware and software for their particular platform.
Yeah - they both look like squashed jellybeans.

FYI - I finished Ultima 9 without any patches... on a TNT2, no less. AND, the 1.18 *significantly* increased Direct3D performance.
Get yer facts straight. While the DC *can* take advantage of WinCE, most games DO NOT. There are maybe a half dozen games which use WinCE.
So I guess we know how far ethics really go - they're stopped dead in their tracks by video games and movies.
So yeah, there may be some value down the road to "collectors editions", even if you don't appreciate the added features now.
not "News for Open Source Nerds"
Bankrupt.
CD - music was done a long time ago, by non-programmers.
DVD - movie rendering was done a long time ago, once again, by non-programmers
Manual - how long does it take someone to sign their name? About 2 seconds. Then rubber-stamp the manuals.
So basically, you're just complaining for the sake of complaining.
