Why? Simply because they did not choose to use your OS of choice? Get a grip, man. Believe it or not, there are some things Linux is just not suited for.
"Please can we have some more unportable proprietary software? I don't think the industry has completely failed yet. "
The software industry is making it just fine with "unportable proprietary software". Last time I checked it made up over 90% of the software in use today.

Such as???? The only one I can think of is "Bounty Hunter", which hasn't been talked about for a good five years. Most everything Origin has started, they finish.

I meant I see very few people carrying PDAs who are not nerds. Doesn't mean you have to carry a PDA to *be* a nerd.:)
Yeah, the last few Ultimas were buggy initially, but that's what patches are for right? You also have to consider that the games were so complex compared to everything else out there, that they pushed the PCs of the time to their limits (U7 needed it's own custom memory manager!)
Taking that into consideration, in addition to how great the games were (they are still considered classics, despite the bugs), that I'm more than willing to forgive Origin for any technical problems I had with those games.
Bsdies, most games of the DOS era were very buggy anyway.... we tend to forget how often they crashed over time.
No - he just wasn't as actively involved. He coded 1-5 pretty much by himself. Ultima 6 he was still programming, but not as responsible for the whole deal. U7 and U8 he was basically a producer. He oversaw the direction and final product, but wasn't very hands-on. Same with 9, until the main crew was fired halfway through... then he took over about a year ago until the product was finished
Huh? U7 had "cutesy cartoon" graphics? Did you consider that that might be a limitation of 320x200 VGA??? It's a far sight better than the 16-color ega 8x8 tile based system in the first five games.
Although I do agree that Ultima 5 was one of the best.
Ultima IX was the last of the trilogy of trilogies, and UO2, while set in Britannia, will take place several centuries afterwards and will probably be a good bit different anyway.
I would assume Garriot left due to EA's ownership - since EA bought Origin, they have constantly forced out Origin's products for Christmas sales.
Ultima IX was the end of the "nonology", and UO2 will be sufficiently removed from the Britannia everyone is familiar with (struggle between technology and magic, etc). So it's probably as good a time as any for Garriot to leave.
As Origin is owned by EA, and has been for several years, he probably got sick of their marketing department trying to rush out their products for the Christmas shopping season (as they did with Ultima 8 and 9).
I'm sure you mean 9. Because 7 (while buggy at first), was an incredible game. No game before or since has created the illusion of a "living world" as well as Ultima 7 did. It's considered by many to be the last great Ultima. (that and the "sequel" Serpent Isle)

Uh, Macintosh, hello?
Well if you run Windows 95, 98 then you are running DOS, it just has a clown suit on!
Bullsh*t. Do some research before making idiot posts.

Thank you for saying that. Everyone, read that statement and commit it to memory.

Of course that doesn't apply to games currently in development... critical thinking skills are a good thing...

That might account for his lack of interest in getting Ultima 9 up to the standards of the first 7, however.
