I haven't personally seen a PSX2 in action, but you're right - there just won't be that much of a difference in graphics. It doesn't matter if you've got 23 bajillion polygons on the screen, if that screen is locked in at the standard NTSC/PAL resolution. Now, once HDTV hits big, then differences in graphic procession might be an issue again. But currently we're quickly getting to the point of diminishing returns.
Except for the fact that the PSX2 will cost nearly double what the DC did. That is a big factor that you (and many others) are neglecting. Most people can blow $250 for a console and a game. Over $400 for a PSX2 and a game is a different story.
Give me a break - you work for Sony, dontcha? I think everyone is highly overestimating the impact of the PSX2. Launch sales will probably be a little bigger than the Dreamcast - but nowhere NEAR a factor of four. And there is *NO WAY* it'll sell five million units in under a year - especially at a $300-400 price point.
Jakob Nielsen is on the money - I think we've reached the point of diminishing returns with the current "desktop" model of UI. Win2K has it refined about as far it will go, and Aqua is really the same old, same old, just amplified and candy coated. We need someone to invent a new style of interface - one that will take advantage of emerging technologies like speech recognition, 3d acceleration, desktop video, etc. I'm not sure what that would *look* like, but it would be a good direction to take.
I have played as a female character solely to see if what you mentioned is true. Even though I have thoroughly cleaned up numerous times, I have never had anyone make any mention of the gender of my character.

I agree - a good UI lets the user focus on the task at hand. But with all the Aqua pics I've seen, there are headers, buttons, and scrollbars *screaming* at the user from every corner. It's just too much, and will easily distract most users. Say what you will about the Windows UI, but at least it's clean and understated.
It's not the bloated mess the Windows version has become... There is *way* too much junk in the RealPlayer app that is useless: Content Panel? AOL Instant Messenger? snap.com search bar? Please.

That doesn't fly with me. You can have all the contacts in the world, but there is something to be said for physical interaction. The senses of touch, sight, smell, hearing - none of these are stimulated through the internet (no crude jokes - you know what I mean). As humans, we *need* that kind of interaction. Whether you agree or not is moot - this has been proven time and time again. Persionally, I would rather have a handful of friends that I physically interact with than hundreds that I will never *really* know in the real world.
The internet is yet another layer of separation between humans. Yes, it is a wonderful tool. But it also makes it very easy to distance yourself from real life - especially for those who may lack well developed social skills. While email/chat/etc is nice, it's no substitution for face to face interaction. At least with the telephone you are interacting voice to voice - you can hear inflections that don't translate well to type (I don't care how many emoticons you use). But as I said, to truly to connect to someone, you have to be face to face.
"Look at USB. Apple brought USB to the marketplace. Now everybody is jumping on the USB bandwagon. USB (IMHO) is a wonderful technology for PnP devices."
No they didn't - USB technology was bought from (someone) by Intel.
Graffiti took me all of a half hour to learn... about as long as it takes someone to figure out a DVD player or a fancy microwave. You can't compare that to Linux... it's a completely different (and infinitely more complex) beast.
Of course, don't forget "High Five", and "Yeah, You're going to hell" (OK, so they're not that funny out of context). But the 8-Ball jacket line was the best...

someone needs to seriously lay off the X-Files.
Just note that if you're going to boycott every corporation that is out for a buck, then you will have to boycott EVERYONE.

You boycott-crazy people are going to boycott yourselves all the way back to earthen huts and hunting food with a flint-tipped spear
But it's not - that has been the going price for a while ($160, that is). I've bought one for that price as well.
None of this pansy 64MB MP3 portables - I can use a CD or MD for that. I want *days* worth of portable music!
but Intel kinda needs to get those 800/850 chips out before worrying about 1Ghz
Yes, our mediums are 2D, but our world is 3D. If we (as you suggest) want to go to a more "real" model, then wouldn't 3d make sense?

Well, the Cosby Show had a much longer run than those shows, and a much larger audience. Cheers would have fit well, though.
True - I've been wearing hard lenses since 86 or so. (although now they're called "gas permeable")

Wasn't this promised (and even available for ordering) several months ago?
Virtual PC is not the same as Virtual GameStation. Think before ya post.

You're right, but corporations *do* have a right to protect their intellectual property (which includes hardware design).
