  1. Re:Silliness on Calling Out TiVo · · Score: 1

What about TSN(/ESPN) then? They accept advertising AND collect money from cable/satellite providers which has come from subscribers paying for the channel(s). Are ALL cable tv stations that carry advertising and have a subscription fee, whether individual or in a tier package, going overboard?

  2. Re:Sales gimmick on Coming Soon: Burn-Proof CDs · · Score: 1

99.9% of people buying the CD don't care or don't even know what "Burn-Proof" means. They'll probably try to set it on fire. You can't expect the 0.1% of the music buying public - the people who care about fair use or whatever - to make a difference by not buying it. It's going to have almost no impact on sales.

To be technically correct you should have written "since Donkey Kong". Back in those days Mario was a carpenter, before he inexplicably because a plumber. His ass-crack never USED to be visible.

He was also a rotten little bastard in Donkey Kong Jr. Holding DK prisoner and sending evil minions to kill Dk's son? Good thing PETA didn't get wind of it...

Who cares if you wouldn't buy a game console for DVD playback? Is everyone posting to this thread really so dense that they think that their preferences are everyone else's? A lot of people have LIMITED financial means, and buying a hybrid game console/DVD player makes sense to them. More people buying DVD players care about getting a cheap one than getting the one with the best 5.1 support, remote, advanced features, etc. Did high-end VCRs outsell cheap ones? No.

And for the Sqaresoft whore... the NES was the dominant North American home system before Final Fantasy ever debuted on it. Final Fantasy is not that big a deal - there are THOUSANDS of games released for successful consoles, and it really doesn't matter if a single console has the most successful RPG franchise. Just because YOU buy consoles just for Final Fantasy doesn't mean everyone else does or will.

Get Dell to opt out? They already endorse this scheme whole-heartedly. If you buy a copy of Win2000 OEM from Dell with a computer you *CAN'T* (legitimately) install it on another non-Dell computer. The installer says "This is not a Dell" and quits. What happens if you get another non-Dell computer within a year? You can't install Win2000 on it without another OEM/retail copy or use an "illegal" hack or work-around to install your "Dell copy" on the new non-Dell computer. A copy of Win2000 OEM should only be SOLD with a new computer, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't ever be able to use it on another computer if you stop using it on your Dell. You have a single-user license and damn it you should be able to use it on any computer you see fit to use it on.

How many people in region 1 really care about playing other region DVDs? European prices are higher. The small minority of region 1 customers who really feel they'll come across other region DVDs should go get an all-region player, but for the VAST MAJORITY in region 1, a region 1 player will do. How many people currently in region 1 go "Oh damn, I really want to play this PAL VHS tape I have lying around..."

Sports gambling and Blackjack can be a high paying profession when undertaken by a skilled (non-cheating) bettor/player. Also, don't forget that the house, on occasion, trips up. Soccer games were rescheduled in England and played earlier than anticipated, and the Ontario government's sports betting arm let people place bets on games whose outcomes had already been decided. The sporting betting arm took a HUGE hit on that one. You may need low scruples to win big this way, but you're by no means stupid for taking advantage of situations like this.

Ah but the internet only people also like printing their e-mail. Not only in B&W, but also in colour when they are sent pictures as attachments to the e-mail. They might even want to scan in a picture or two, or even take some pictures with a digital camera.

Unless there are some good printers/scanners/digital cameras to come up with support for the PSX2, then the PC is still the best choice for many of these "internet only" users.

Needless to say, very good quality input devices are also a must. (keyboard + mouse - my grandfather could never use a control pad!)
