Although I agree with you, the whole point of Facebook's security features are to limit WHO can see your personal information. Some people may not necessarily have put info up if they thought the whole WWW could access it... No longer having control over how your info is filtered from the general public can make you vulnerable to stalkers, which is a serious concern for some people.
So I can understand the reaction - to an extent.
