I think that posting something on an anonymous FTP server and not expecting something like this happen, and that people will be respectful is about like setting a stack of 50 cds on the sidewalk, and expecting only the people who run mirrors to pick them up. They should have a private FTP for mirrors to grab the package from if they were that concerned about it. Don't most places do that anyway?

It's not really slashdotted, just all the anon slots on their ftp server are full, so they really won't be using any more bandwidth than they wanted to.

YMCANAL (you most certainly are not a lawyer). Whoever told you that is wrong. Examples that come to mind that are pretty similar to this case are AT&T including a clause in a contract for Long Distance that stated that you could arbitrate against them. Also see the section here about legality.

You missed the point. They do it to annoy the hell out of all of you. They get to post a bunch of crap, which is so obviously not true that you all will flame it and whine and complain like little babies, which, will make it all the more likely to happen in the future. It might have been dumb to you, but I'm sure they were all laughing their asses off at you.

That's why you need to learn the secret of browsing at +3 or +4, so many people have had the +1 bonus for so long that I feel it became useless. Maybe the scale needs to be adjusted though, everyone posts at 1 or 2, then the top end could be 6 or 7, low end should be -1 or -2.

Maybe they aren't supposed to be funny? Some of them are amusing, but I think the funny part lies in the fact that they get to read through all these comments and listen to all of us complain about how stupid slashdot is and how april fools stories suck. If I worked up there, I'd be laughing so hard all day my entire cube would be filled with my own urine. Actually, I'll take that back, I find it amusing here too. Amusing that so many people take /. so seriously that a day of crap news and they're lives are going to end. Now THAT is hilarious.

That this post got a +5 interesting is proof moderation is in bad shape, it should have been -365 redundant, since it was redundant as of last year, and many years before that, when they posted nothing but 20-30 april fools jokes on april 1st. Big deal. Slashdot is only a silly website, I certainly hope nobody thinks it is anything else.

Hmm, instead of a toilet-cam why not hookup the infrared things on the automatic toilets in my dorm hall to a system that can provide information via a web page (or a console in the bathroom) as to which stalls/urinals are available for use, to avoid needless trips to the can. Also, you could hook up an odor meter to each john so that you know which one to use if you don't want to pass out.

Hunting is actually quite a dilemna for me. (Qualifier = I am a vegetarian and animal activist or whatever you want to call me). Anyway, where I live (Indiana), there is a tremendous deer overpopulation. Numerous studies have been done, and if they were left to their own (and we didn't hunt them), they would continue to overpopulate and spread, and would be a serious problem to the environment, as well as many farms across the midwest. (It's our fault it got this way anyway.). So, I think killing an animal is wrong, but in this case, what other options do we have? So it is hard for me to say that I am entirely against hunting, when I recognize that it needs to exist in some cases.

Also, I'm all for the entire bill of rights of the United States Constitution, 1-10, every one of them. People that think we should get rid of the 2nd amendment need to really think about it. Because then you probably still have firepower in the hands of the police and the government, but not 99% of private citizens. Doesn't seem like a good idea to me.
