Have you ever tried to grab a window and move it on Windows? You click the side and it just resizes it! Madness!
Just FYI.
I just tried to do what you describe on my Macbook Pro... it does nothing, doesn't resize, doesn't move the window (test application was Finder).
Im a mac user, but some of the sh!t that apple does is retarded. ObjectiveC/Cocoa ?? WTF just build a C++ library if you need an object oriented Carbon! And not maintaining Carbon to 64bit... WTF Steve!
Some of their stuff is smart though... using Unix underneath is great (even if it breaks their "think different" paradigm). Xcode has lots of great tools included in it.
Apple isn't a smarter company than other players, they are just different (and trendy). I tolerate Apple's stupid decisions because I think their smart decisions (unix, decent hardware) acceptably recover them.
Have you tried to resize a window in Mac OSX ? Only from the bottom right corner! Tell me that UI decision is not stupid?
I don't know who to trust here
You're not being asked to "trust" anyone here... you dont have to make a decision, you're not a federal court judge (unless of course, you are, pardons your honour).
Even if you did make some sort of moral decision, its pointless; as your decisions in this, matter little to the parties that be.
Actually I expect the technical types at Ubisoft are shitting their pants right now. They are probably working on their 25th hour of overtime (except they are salaried so they dont actually get overtime... heh) trying to fix the problem, grumbling about why they ever had to implement this stupid DRM in the first place.
On the other hand management types who made the decision to go with this retarded (literally) DRM are probably comfortably watching a DVD and wont care about this until monday... at which point they will blame all the technical types and demand a fix immediately.
Hi Z8. Im really interested in the DX since it's been released in Canada. Could you answer some questions about it for me?
I've put off buying it because I heard that bookmarks couldn't be made and that the text isn't very good because 9.7" is too small.
1) how does this pdf render (http://www.3gpp2.org/Public_html/specs/C.S0005-0_v1.0.pdf) I picked this doc specifically because the pages aren't numbered normally. 1a) how quickly can you find section 2.3.1.1 ? 1b) is the text properly sized? do you have to turn the DX on it's size to "zoom" properly? 1c) how does the figure on page B-54 render? How long did it take you to find page B-54?
I have more questions I would like to ask you via email. Do you think you could contact me at masmullin AT gmail DOT com ?
Im being picky here, but the screen is an awkward shape for eBooks. 1024x600 as 10.1" is a rather elongated rectangle, and isn't anywhere near the same ratios as 8.5"x11" paper (22:17 which pdfs emulate). It's not a 16:9 ratio It's a strange 128:75 ratio
I think this will leave readers of pdfs with a shrunken page so that it will fit into the slimness when the tablet is held vertically, and with a little bit of the next page seen at the bottom of the screen.
I dont think the screen shape will be good for text reading, I dont think it will be good for holding, I dont think its good for movies, I dont think its particularly good for normal applications.
Other than "because thats the size the pixel Qi makes" I cant think of a good reason for this elongated screen.
However, I truly truly hope that I am wrong. I really want this product to succeed, but why the weird screen?
would you have purchased a non-3G non-wifi nook for $75 cheaper than the nook you purchased?
I own a PRS-505 which doesn't have 3G nor wifi (Living in Canada, sony was my only option for an ereader)... I cant really see how these two features are at all important in a 6" reader.
For a larger ereader like the kindle DX I can understand why 3G is important, to get the daily eText stuff like newspapers delivered to you in the car or at the office. Daily stuff would suck if one had to plug into a computer each morning.
I don't mean to criticize your choice of reader, if the Nook was offered in Canada I would have purchased it over the 505 simply because B&N has a way better selection of books vs Sony. But are the wireless capabilities really more than just a gimmick?
In every single review of every mass produced e-ink reader I've read they have mentioned the painfully slow page turning speed of e-readers
This tells me that rather than this issue being a significant problem... the critics of ereaders simply dont understand the usage of the device.
I expect that these reviewers are not using the ereader, but are simply pressing buttons on them and seeing how sharp the text is. The page refresh rate is similar to a paperback book.
Seriously, when reading a novel the page refresh is a non-issue, however, when reading some sort of technical info, or a textbook where you want to be flipping the page back and forth a lot, yeah its a problem. Since the reading device you've stated is a PRS300 (a sony pocket) which is basically incapable of rendering anything except novels, page refresh isn't an issue.
Im still amazed at your superhuman reading speeds, a PRS 300 renders aprox 60% of a normal page of text... since you've revised your reading speed from 1page/second to 1page/few seconds (lets say 4 seconds) which puts your war in peace reading record at about 3 hours...
are you sure your not exaggerating just a slight amount... care to revise your 1page/few seconds to 1page(60%normal)/15 seconds which is... how do I put this... more human (even though it is still extremely fast, I wouldn't put it past certain people to be able to read&comprehend war and peace in 9h)?
But it's a fact that the set of names on the list is {...}.
Yes they are on the greater list, however, if you simply copy my sublist of funny names you are violating my copyright because the only thing distinguishing the sublist is my opinion of what is funny. You're allowed to create your own list of funny names, but if you have the same list as me (or the list is significantly similar) you'll be violating my copyright, because I came up with the list of funny names first.
the loophole you point out is just rather silly. Youre right that the courts would view the loophole as an intent to break copyright law... we need not discuss this subject anymore.
What I'm saying is that there is no device on the market like the iPad
Including the fraking iPAD. ITS NOT SOLD YET! You haven't used one!
RTFS
March 30th.
Oh, I think you have something in your teeth, let me take a look. Ohh and I love your necklace. Wonderful skirt. You are such a snappy dresser!
Abstinence is the only 100% method to prevent pregnancy. The pull out technique doesn't work. I hope China was on the Pill.
No I mean elder scrolls. Fallout 3 was good, but ES:IV was better (I like the magic system).

I want a new elder scrolls dash nabbit!
Wikipedia is always 100% correct and always 100% legal... mmmhummm. Thats why my university profs want me to quote ONLY from it.
What? Jobs is a cleric? He's gonna grab his holy symbol and mace!
Apple may be litigious, but it's not stupid

sounds pretty anti-authoritarian-mob justice to me...
totalitarian states usually want the monopoly on exacting punishments.
Can they surgically remove the key without his consent?
You'd make a wonderful dread pirate Roberts.
Yeah, I think the US can stop hackers by SHOOTING THEM IN THE HEAD!
That statement is only true for Nuclear War and the Special Olympics.

Whats your problem with people expressing their opinion?
welcome to the apple mindset. Thou shalt not question the almighty Jobs.
I'm sorry, but I'm typing this on a Macbook Pro
Its ok... we all have flaws.
