The lessons of Columbine are far too important to ignore.
This is the part of this whole thing I don't understand. What are the lessons we've learned? A couple of unstable wackos went bonkers and did something really terrible. But what did this teach us? To be suspicious of people who are different? To not be suspicious of people who are different? That anyone could go bonkers at any time and kill a bunch of people?
Not trying to flame (really, seriously, not). I just don't understand what should be learned from this. I can't see what difference it makes who these kids were, or where it happened. They were clearly deeply disturbed. I seriously believe this could happen anywhere at any time. I just hope I'm not there when it does.
I guess I don't understand all the tossing around of ideas to solve this or fix that. I don't see what there is to solve or fix. Sometimes people lose their shit. Not good, but I believe they're disturbed individuals, and would have found an excuse at some point to lose it. They were clearly not living in the same reality as the rest of us.
Whatever it is, if it is a problem that can be "solved" (or at least minimized), it's clearly not solely an American problem, as has been hypothesized repeatedly (not by the above post, just ranting now).
What's the matter? Your server can't keep up with all the hits you're getting? Posting some Katz is a sure-fire way to reduce the number of hits you get, but isn't that a little drastic?
At my high school it was made to rain in the gym during a basketball game. If you can name that high school you win nothing, other than the chuckle you get from remembering the incident.
Exactly. I'm just waiting for someone to file a lawsuit to try and shut down AT&T and MediaOne, since you can use their phone/cable lines to transmit illegally copied MP3's.
Actually, not a bad idea. MediaOne needs shutting down.
While I agree there is inaccuracy in lots of the comments on/., and I also agree that this particular comment looks like it was written by a Toshiba Whore, I am also capable of researching the information posted and making my own decision. It's something we higher primates are gifted with. Keep trying, you'll get it.
BTW, what's wrong with jizzing after reading Ayn Rand?:)

Wow man - Thanks. I'm on the verge of buying a new projection TV. My wife wouldn't go for the $5,000 Mitsubishi I wanted, so I was about to settle for a Sony 53" (non-HDTV). This 40" HDTV looks like the hookup though. Hadn't even considered Toshiba.

This brings up something I'd never really thought of before. If a single species of carnivore were to evolve into a warm-blooded creature, would that creature then vastly outperform it's rival carnivores, causing some of the rival species to die off? Would it also be effective enough to kill lots of prey, perhaps even to the point of causing serious instability and even extinction within a species line?
Could be an interesting proposition as to why certain species of dinos flourished while at the same time others were dying off in large numbers. IANAP (I Am Not A Paleontologist) but this seems like it could be valid.

But if they did option 2 on July 4th, think of all the money that could be saved on fireworks!

Gives a whole new meaning to "putting on a rubber", eh?
c) Perhaps I should get the update that fixes this problem from Windows Update.
If you're using WinBlows, better make Windows Update your homepage.

This guy clearly needs a balloon inflated in his shorts.

No RCN where you live?
MediaOne just sent around a nice announcement that they're increasing their fees (at least in metro Boston). You Bastards!

So much for my new 3-TB hard drive.
Nice to see what a little drunken flame can do ;).
Also nice to see this was taken correctly and mod'ed as "funny"... Kinda restores my faith in SlashDot... OK, I'm back.
Some people are just too sensitive.
Point taken - Although I'm not convinced the poster I replied to could be lumped in the people that know either.
"Signing off for good"
Promise?
Maybe - Will you be my friend?
Not my original nick - Several accounts. Thanks user #102806.
My original is in the 50k's. Took a year before I signed up for that one.
So PISS OFF NEWBIE!
MS Bigot?
I use a real OS - You should try one too
I agree - Fuck this site. Used to be cool.
Does VB suck? I don't know, since I never really used it. Am I prejudiced against it? No.
I've had enough of SlashDot bigotry... Signing off for good.

Agreed - So long as the "standard" used to determine consistency doesn't totally suck.
Now please excuse me. I must go put a "Start" menu in all my Windows apps so I can put "Exit" there.

Jon Katz always has to work in a mention about geeks and "poop culture"...
Dude, I'm a "geek", and I don't know what "poop culture" is, but I think I'd like to stay blissfully ignorant...
Whenever he attempts to write an article hit him in the head with the bottle.
If he goes around calling women "ChickClickers" he may be dying pretty soon though...
