Ok, it's quite clear that this is one of the last cry-outs of a dieing business. I pitty all people that depend on these revenue streams; however, this is not stopable. Many people will be sued, but there is a max to this.
Only way to stop this is by world domination and dictatorship.... which is luckely enough not in eyesight:-)
Now, maybe we can say that music becomes absolute art (in stead of big business).
By the way, I wonder if the movie industry will faces the same thread very soon.
Will cars still be the dominant form of transport for Americans?
What bothers me a little is that you Americans always talk about what things apply to Americans when yer referring to world citizens really. Like America *is* the world. Like we (the rest of the world) don't care about this subject.
Please try to be more global since this (I think) is an international news site, right?
I think System Administrators should send a similar e-mail as this one every once in a while to all their users. An unharmfull version of it, that is, which only sends a reply back to the administrator. This way, he/she can warn the user for not ever opening anything he/she does know know of.
Of course, the administrator will have to fake his e-mail addy, but that shouldn't be hard:)
Just an idea... don't count on the web becoming virus-less... take countermeasurements.
Like I just did, John Doe also just installed a copy of the C source on his machine. Unless they change the algo and bring out new players, and retreive the old ones, there's no way they're gonna stop this.
VHS was easy to copy but still the movie industry is bulging with money...
Perhaps slightly off-topic, I tried to post this as an article. But I guess here is good enuf. CNET got it's own linux new center now. http://linux.cnet.com/
Isn't it true that Linux is presented to the mass too soon? For example, Netscape seems to be the mainstream browser to come with the mainstream distributors. But Netscape is awfully buggy, it crashes rather frequently.
Another example is quake3, I bought the game, installed it and it crashes when I try to alter the system settings.
Won't this hurt the public opinion of Linux? Since, the mass will mostly use such programs.
Also, XFree4.0 will be out in february or so. This is a major re-write of XFree with enhanced 3D support. I doubt if this won't come with a lot of bugs... that's just plain normal for such a new product. This also might very much hurt the public opinion about Linux since the mass is just now getting aquinted with Linux. I think most people think of switching to Linux because of stability issues, so this might very well be a disappointing factor.
Don't get me wrong however, I do love Linux:) And I do know Linux itself is stable. Just concerned that public opinion will fail though.
What about the next pre-release xfree org would release? It should be released before the end of this year... that's in 4 days. Anyone know if they're gonna make it?
I would like to add to the article that free open-sourced software is still unlikely to be accepted by managers. Managers tend to have this feeling of 'If it's free, it can't be good, will not have proper support and I can't sue anyone if the software fails.'
Till now, I rejected Intel to support AMD.
;-)
Now I can buy Intel procs again since AMD is starting to become a fscking irritating chipzilla too... yay!

No hard feelings though

You might want to look at MMBase.
It's a very nice open source dynamic content management system. It seems to be wap enabled also.
Could someone please moderate this as 'Funny'? :-)
For the well being of the human being (homo sapiens), please remove these ppl from powerfull places.
Thank you.

I want a dual Athlon 1Ghz!!!!
Trying to be informative? :-)
He timothy, goed artikel, maarre, liever de volgende keer in het Engels, ok? Bedankt! Groetjes, Fats
I heard rumours that they do have a new Sotware Architect.... maybe it's a miracel man?
:-)
Transmeta? AMD? Intel? Motorola?

Good remark, damn, I need moderation points :-)
Ok, I like it. But didn't we all complain like hell when Microsoft did the same thing in the US? :-)
Wanted: Borg picture of Steve Balmer.

Hmm, as far as I know, 'Opera 4.0a' indicates that it's an alpha release...
It hung after I resized the window.
I guess they read Slashdot too? :-)
ERM, tell me I'm wrong if I say: This is a standart text with the words Nuclear Fusion pasted into it.
Just a typo, sorry ;)
