I'd be far more worried about malcode (virii, worms, etc) taking hold in the cross-platform evironment the parent mentions than worrying about games.

  2. Re:Why are uploads so pathetic. on Comcast Raises Bandwidth in Shot at DSL · · Score: 2, Informative

Its not a business decision, its a technical one... Unfortunately, the DOCSIS protocol for cable modem networks specifies a different method of reserving channels for upload than download.

Downloads typically are reserved a 6 MHz band for each subscriber, while uploads share a 24 MHz band for the whole neighborhood. This is due to two factors:
the frequencies used... (high-pass filters upstream, low-pass filters downstream) ...and the encoding method used (typical QPSK-256 downstream and QAM-16 upstream)

Just thought I'd share the one thing I'm actually good at. :-)

  3. Re:Suspicious activities on FBI Can Inspect Bank Records w/o Court Orders · · Score: 2, Informative

    DEAD WRONG.

if a bank discloses the financial information of its clients voluntarily or involuntarily, it is liable under the Graham-Leech-Bliley act congress passed about 2 years ago. The concept was to restrict the ways information the bank held could be used, because of the material loss of privacy suffered by its customers. Just because, in this case, the party the information is being disclosed to is the government, why should this skirt that law?

Its issues like this that are (were) at the heart of the governments requirement that a Judge be involved in awarding these warrents. Now that the process has been short-circuited, the process has lost a very valuable legal perspective gained by the several years each federal judge works through to be appointed.

I can understand a fixed, antenna-extended AP reaching 1400' in altitude, but laptops/desktops set to peer mode? you'd think even the ceilings/roofs of the buildings would filter that signal right out since the strength just wouldn't be there.

    Wow! surprising.

What privelege was lost by the prosecution playing a tape?

Probably just bundled cables braided together multiple times to an overall width of 1.5m. I did some research on this some time ago, and they originally start with .05m cables which are braided together in bulks of (example, not sure of number) 12 or so. Several of those bundles are braided together in groups of (again, example..) 6. Those are belted together & sheathed, which produces 1.5m diameter

The article which was linked to indicated the re-charging process uses natural gas. My chemistry's quite rusty, but I believe its CH4. No Sulfer, no Nitrogen. This means no NOx or SOx. CO2 might still be a problem, but a containable one since it occurs naturally much more than does the acid rain caused by noxious gases produced by internal comubstion engines.

    I say, bring it on!

Why do we need to bring religion into it? Simply, children need better parents... these parents (who need the help of religion, to be sure) need to raise their children from the time they have them to the time they leave their house. They need to instill VALUES. It doesn't take a village to raise a child, it takes committed parents. And that's all it should take. Bad parents shouldn't blame others for THEIR mistakes.
