It is precisely because of this behaviour that Microsoft are still hugely unpopular and widely mistrusted. That they are now behaving a bit better because they have been dragged kicking and screaming to this change of policy does not grant them a free pass for all their previous misdeeds. The fact that they seem to have pretty much escaped the consequences of their actions also grates massively.
Being a Linux desktop user used to be wonderful. Then something went horribly wrong and it turned into a very annoying nightmare. Let me ask you something. How much dicking about did your perfect desktop require with such things as graphics cards and wifi drivers not being recognised? Does your printer work well with it? If so what model is it and did you have to spend some time researching which one would work with your PC rather than just buying one and knowing it will work?
I'm not anti-Linux, I used to use it extensively in the early 00s, but it just seemed to get slower and none of the annoyances like faulty drivers were being dealt with. I know that's not totally Linux's fault but it doesn't help when some hacked together wifi driver just refuses to work without any kind of decent error messages to give me some idea of what to do.
My time's worth quite a lot. That's why I bought a Mac. Now I have an OS that doesn't annoy me all the time with random slowdowns and irrelevant messages. It just gets out of the way and lets me use my computer. Windows is a very annoying POS. Ubuntu is more annoying but at least it doesn't cost anything.
It would be a bit duller though and you would never have the satisfaction of seeing a total arse lose several months' worth of account and items. However broadly I agree, which I why I stopped playing the PvP servers on WoW as it stopped being fun about level 25.
In the corporate world where Linux could have made inroads there is a huge amount of Windows only software. In the consumer space, the Linux experience is not as good as the Windows or Mac one with regards to driver compatibility, GUI consistency and, again, availability of software. It doesn't matter how good Linux is or isn't; it's not marketed well and users can't run what they want on it.
I think it's great personally. Shame the market took so fucking long to damage them. We could have been much further ahead in pretty much everything without that vast incompetent roadblock.
The GPL prevents the user from having to depend on you for fixes to the software since the GPL requires you to supply the source. The MIT license does not require you to supply the source. This is about freedom for the user. The developer already has the freedom to not use the GPL or software licensed under it in anything they create. As I said already the GPL is about the freedom of the customer not the supplier.
The GPL is about the user's freedom not the developer's. It guarantees that the user can modify the source in any way they see fit without the developer locking them out now or later.
Yeh right because Apple want to lower their profits. You still won't be able to upgrade the storage either (unless you pay a lot of money for the crippled Apple solution or even more money for an 8GB flash add-on).
I guess me and Amazon are killling the games industry together by paying 15GBP for a game after 6 months to a year instead of 40GBP right away. PS to game developers (looking hard at Bethesda) don't release very buggy software if you want repeat customers.
How about we stop hurting people altogether and see how that works out instead. Just so you know, women are not the only victims of oppression in the world. Do you think no men have ever been punished, humilated or enslaved either?
Well nobody's actually asked me but I would be quite happy if my government were to take the troops out of Afghanistan, stop wasting money outsourcing public services to useless private corporations and invest in our space industry instead.

In this case (as in many others) Microsoft are showing a single digit to all their customers.

Seriously buggy games are not quality games.

We just need Spiderman.
You missed: -Doesn't run most of the software people use

I wish I could find a twenty-something woman to share my genetic supremacy with.
Nope, instead the MAFIAA would've sent goons from Pinkerton's in to wreck the hosting company's offices and server rooms.

No it isn't, the firmware's been out for a long time now.
More clueless bollocks from someone who's never really been there.

Oh stop crying already.
I don't loathe Commodore, Atari or Sinclair - all of whom made home computers long before the IBM PC made it out of the office.
Our society is already filled with spoiled brats. Try asking someone to be quiet on public transport and see what sort of temper tantrum ensues.
How about we stop hurting people altogether and see how that works out instead. Just so you know, women are not the only victims of oppression in the world. Do you think no men have ever been punished, humilated or enslaved either?
You insensitive clod!
Amazon ratings of course are far more relevant than sales figures.
