    Your right to wank off over Miley Cyrus is not what's at issue here. It's photos of children being abused, i.e. real harm to real humans demanded by those who are just "harmlessly" looking at "harmless" photos.

    What makes you think the manufacturers won't fix this? All you've done is said it was imposed (which it wasn't) and now how manufacturers have done things independently in the past when they weren't working together on a common standard.

    My right to plug my laptop into my TV and have it work will be nice too. I have no idea why they don't work since they both support HDCP but all I get is a black screen. HDMI should be the digital equivalent of SCART, not some inane way to annoy legitimate users of products.

    I'd like my PC to work with my HD TV. HDCP is however preventing me from doing that, despite both devices being HDCP compliant. Nothing to do with piracy and everything to do with technology that doesn't work properly.

    That's because a lot of Slashdot people actually have memories and remember that Microsoft have behaved very badly in the past. Just like any habitual criminal the trust won't magically come back, it will take a lot of effort on their part.

    It does surprise me (although it shouldn't) that the blame for our current deficit woes has suddenly fallen on benefit scroungers, immigrants and the "dreadfully wasteful" public sector, instead of the previous administration having to spend huge sums bailing out a bunch of greedy fools in the banking sector. Those greedy fools of course are quite happily carrying on as before without any restrictions or complications.

    They're called Crapita by Private Eye for a reason. However public service IT in the last 3 decades is a long story of waste, incompetence and stupidity. Hooray for privatisation - a worse service for a higher cost!

    Getting the required industry EXPERIENCE solving real problems rather than just dicking around with it at home is not FREE. I learned Java at home. It got me precisely zero jobs. I learned C++ at night school. It got me precisely zero jobs. I managed to get EXPERIENCE in C# and SQL Server and now I have a job in that. Having no EXPERIENCE in the technology of the job you're applying for means your resume goes in the bin. At least in my experience anyway.

    I've read lots of books. I've also been using Windows since 1995 and granted while it's not the disaster it once was it's still more of a mess than it needs to be. Mac OS is a shit example. It's still not a tenth of the target Windows is even though it now has a tenth of the market.
