I suggest you check your websites on firefox 2.xx. I was at a business this morning that still runs Windows 98 and firefox 2.xx. Their core application won't run on XP, OSX or Linux.
Apologies I made the mistake of not reading properly and thought you were responding to this one.
No it's very expensive. Now if MS had cared less about breaking the law and more about the quality of their code then perhaps things would be different.
Virtually wiping them out doesn't count as civilizing them. Plus the ones doing the massacring in South America were from Spain. Which at that time, as you'll know being an obvious student of history, had its own death cult masquerading as Christianity. The whites in North America were leaving England where at that time they were burning witches and heretics. It's easy to be disgusted at the Mayans and Aztecs but the Europeans of the time weren't much better.
Were they better off before the whites arrived? The jury's out as regards Africa but the Native Americans, Mayans, Aztecs, Australian Aborigines et al certainly were.
No I aim for things that keep corporates and home users on Windows of which there are many. Corporates do change if they can be shown that the alternative can do the same thing without much hassle for less money. But yet there are very few installations of Linux desktops anywhere. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking Linux but the applications barrier to entry still exists and pretending it doesn't isn't going to advance things.
Can you run Win32 only bespoke apps of which there are many thousands? Can you run niche software like Winscribe? Does Legend of Mir 2 run on Linux? Those are three examples off the top of my head but there will be many many more. Why do you think Linux desktops aren't everywhere now? Do you think corporates wouldn't switch in droves if they could do with free software what they spend millions on doing with Windows?
Can it run most of the required software? No it most certainly cannot. Can it run the latest hardware? Possibly but possibly not - does wireless support finally match Windows? What happens when a new class of hardware comes out? Linux drivers appear long after the Windows ones. That's not the fault of Linux but it is the reality of the matter, else Linux would be everywhere now. Corporates would have switched in droves if they could do with Linux what they can do with Windows.
You are assuming that: a) everyone is capable of complex critical thinking; and b) that incompetent politicos could arrange would be able to stop all teachers from teaching such things; and c) that people can't learn those things themselves.
Not exactly since movies and TV shows wouldn't exist in their current form without the content companies. The pirates are only providing someone else's product in a different format, albeit a superior one.
If you read the article you will see that no money from the ISPs will be going to the MAFIAA. It will all be spent on policing the MAFIAA's bought laws. I know it's nitpicking but these greedy fools will see nothing from this law and will alienate large swathes of the population.
I know you Yanks love Yooroe bashing because we're all so ungrateful or whatever but I'm not sure where the EU comes into this. Which EU law(s) are you referring to?
In 1993 there weren't several virtualisation solutions that the thin client can use. We use thin clients at work connecting to VMWare servers and they're just as good for the average employee as a desktop without all the aggravation that goes with having several hundred corporate PCs to maintain.
Show me a weakness and I'll switch. Until such time as one appears I'll quite happily not have loads of unnecessary cabling lying around my house and be able to use my laptop in any room in any chair without having stray wires that people can trip over.
2% packet loss? Big fucking deal. I like the convenience of wireless, much like I like the convenience of my mobile phone. Neither are as good as cabled devices but then I couldn't sit on a bench in the city centre and use a landline or a wired network. I even use 3G internet too sometimes *gasp*
They have repeatedly explained themselves; that's the whole point of the article. Just because some dick has cherry-picked dubious looking data to create a non-existent scandal doesn't mean that really important work on finding a solution should have to stop. It's better just to say: "come back when you can prove you know what you're talking about".

Because turning customers away is in Google's interest is it?

Because IE6 is still a very widely used browser and therefore every large internet company needs it around to test stuff.
IE8 requires at least XP. Firefox 3.5 requires at least Windows 2000. So you're completely wrong.
The word is lose.

As long as Linux can't run the majority of the required software and devices it won't matter how good or bad its marketing is.
"Bobcat Goldthwait - a veteran of the Police Academy movies"
Well that explains the lack of humour.
Except the ISPs will be putting in big bold letters who required them to do this so it won't be forgotten at all.

You just have and the comment hasn't and won't be deleted. So I think you probably are allowed.

No only the free market can possibly do anything. Government sucks at everything it does. You must be new here. [/libertarian][/sarcasm]

I've bought 3 copies and am looking forward to not having a karaoke number 1.

Of course you don't that's why you replied. Now fuck off and stop talking bollocks there's a good lad.
