I work at a Large Bank, and more often than not, we'll implement an expensive, suboptimal product because a) Someone Else Did It or b) Gartner Said It Was Good. It's all about preconfiguring the blame, it is always someone else's fault - this way, if there's ever a problem and the Gubmint comes looking for tail, we can always point the finger. On a small scale, this reduces to individual admins being force to do stupid things, because Thats What The Project Requires.
How do the millions of people dying of AIDS have any claim whatsover to the drugs? The drugs that wouldn't have been there if your evil drug companies hadn't spent the $$ to make them? It's not like drugs fall from the sky and they're being hoarded, like diamonds or something. Without the drug companies you know what you have? NOT A FUCKING THING. With them, you get something, an infinite percent improvement. If you get some free, or some cheap, be grateful.
Not necessarily, this was a trial balloon sent up, to see how site owners, fans and consumers would react to this type of action. The responses will be analyzed and new strategies designed for next time.
Are all the WMD and "Invade!" and "Haliburton!" jokes even funny any more? They're about as predictable as the Soviet Russia troll, but not nearly as funny.
Caveat: I owned a Zaurus 5500, the review of which was even posted to the front page of Slashdot. USB host, HD and big color screen will suck battery. Keyboard will be useful, but its not a real keyboard. Is Sharp trying to shrink a laptop to unusability (sucky KB), or is it expanding a PDA to unportability (no battery life). Is the market for this type of laptop/PDA hybrid big enough to support this?
Sorry, but your argument doesn't make sense - if PJ writes "editorial" "crap" like "blarney", its clearly not a fact, thus, how is her credibility "called into question" ? If she said that Maureen was secretly a Dalek, THAT would call her credibility into question. Everyone's entitled to an opinion; PJ at least clearly identifies what hers is, and doesn't try to pass it off as fact (hence the somewhat silly name 'blarney')

Why is do people always insist that the government take charge of every fscking facet of their lives?
So you're complaining that they're adding facilities, and you're complaining that the town its in is crappy? Where else can you live for $150 a month off campus? I'm not defending RPI, in my 5 years, I learned more from cutting the grass there than studying, but all the same, you really needed to look at it through different eyes.
So I buy a $100 PC, but then need $700 for an OS and desktop suite (WP, spreadsheet, et. al)? Steve, put down the pipe, you've been hanging out with Darl too long. Or is this a sinister MS plot to get people hooked on cheap PCs, then use a subscription $9.95 a month model to 'rent' the software?
Versus how many people actually have anything of value on their PC? The loss of Aunt Mildred's recipes, browser bookmarks, AIM clients, and pirated copies of OfficeXP does not a catastrophe make.
Are both meaningless certifications, further worsening the problem!

I'd call that an 'embarassingly' simple USB device.
Funny to see the obligatory "Debian is great and sucks less than it used to and has a cool package tool!!111!" post.
Dude, I didn't even read the whole submission, much less TFA. This is Slashdot!
No, my logic is like saying: their property is theirs, not anyone else's.
If you expect to use their products. It's easy to owe them nothing; never claim any of their property as yours. You can't both have and eat your cake.

3 MB cable is "shitty"?
VoIP is a priori desirable?
no capitalizaion?
vague references to 'corporations'?
works for the State?
All the symptoms of someone who never created anything or moved out of his parents' basement.
I suppose that I'd also gush over the lemony OpenSource goodness of my hosts, particularly if they flew me to Rio for a week.

I'll register the first.post domain.
Geesh, where were you? We were doing that back in 1989.
Because its still Insightful.
"First they ignore you,
Then they laugh at you,
Then they fight you,
Then you win."
I'd say we're well into Stage 3.

And now my day is complete, thanks!

It's "Athlon", you idiot.
