    I had a lunatic prof in college who advocated this stuff, along with laser powered lightcraft. The technology really works - as he put it, if we can hit an ICBM at Mach 20 with a laser, we can hit a spot on the (relatively) unmoving Earth with a laser.

    Declaring yourself an 'architect' doesn't mean a) you are one or b) you do anything OTHER than vague, powerpointy kinds of things. Given that Facebook is bigger and more complex than anything you have built, you should consider reserving judgment.

    While your post hints that you've actually experienced it, I'd argue that you didn't. My Dell Mini runs Ubuntu just fine on 512 MB, no SSD-crushing swapping, no i386 directory, no WGA, no bullshit. It just works. Then again, I am not trying to use it as a desktop replacement - its an internet machine, that also has openoffice when I need to work on a project.

    You are totally uninformed. The Dell Mini ships with Ubuntu 8.04 (LTS) with a weird Dell interface, which can be disabled in 1 click.

    The so-called ad-hominem is not the defense of 'calling out stupid bullshit', the remainder of the post was defence of the thesis of the OP being 'sour'. The Patriot act was cited as an example of how "other guys slid laws through on the same deal". You really missed the entire thing. Just because you are not seeing a coherent point, does not mean that there is not one.

    Sounds like sour grapes to me. News Flash: Politicians use these procedural tricks all the time, why do you think that said tricks exist? At someone point, some other guys slid laws through on the same deal. Look at the absurd things the US does - the Patriot Act, Obama's "bailout" plans, that nobody ever reads, but people vote on.
