Seriously if you only bought technology that wouldnt be outdated in 5 years, would you really ever buy any hardware. If you need a guarentee that something better wont come along...technology isnt the field for you, go buy a typewriter and have fun :)

Yes he sucks. But I guess this makes him some sort of an expert of sales demographics. Seriously now where do you think he got this info, probably just his agent, who has no evidence at all. Proving that techies reduce album sales would be impossible to prove, or even put up a decent argument for that matter. Techies are just the music industry's favorite scapegoat.

I saw a thing on the History channel a while ago, and actually that is the sort of thing they are looking into. a landscape filled with massive steel thorns, a maze with fearsome looking masks everywhere, and a large spikes coming out of the ground.

    Personally I like the thorns

Maybe they fear prosicution because the @home website claims that it's "Always On" , lol.
also I think the music industy is responsible for them shutting down, they want to end all broadband. It's just a guess, but at lest slightly resonable...or not :)

I'm just happy I'm still connected!

  5. What an operationg system should be. on Microsoft's Vision For Future Operating Systems · · Score: 1
This article give me a change to ask one of my favorite questions, What should an operationg system be?

    Basicly: 1) Intuitive to use.

    2) Secure

    3) Powerful (in terms of built in facilities for network admin and file manegment, ect.)

4)Reliable (no blue screens, good exception handling)

Now we would all love to have an operation system like this, but it's never gonna happen! No large piece of software is perfect, and operating systems have to do soo much bugs are always there, and with people constantly trying to break OSes they appear fast. So the question you are left with is of these 4 what are the most important and what are the least. Linux users would probably say, "Intuitive whats that?" Windows is kind of in the middle of all of these, if you want powerful take Win NT or Win 2000, you want intuitive take Win 98SE, ME, or XP. Arguable the 5th point would be Free.

So I'll say this to both Windows and Linux communities, you can both do things better.

I agree, it's amazing how schools can spend insane amounts of money on experiments like this but teacher saleries remain soo low. I'm not shure what the wages are Maine, but if they did that here in Nebraska, our teacher saleries are some of the lowest in the country, I wouldn't be suprised if teachers started to strike, nor would I blame them.

  7. a little bit of everything on How PDAs Intersect With School · · Score: 1
PDAs in school...ya right. I promise everyone that this will not catch on on any type of large scale in public schools. A while ago I saw an article in my local paper that a local school was doing a similar experiment giving out about 300 PDAs to High School students. I'm shure that the results of the experiment will show that PDA's are great and all the students love having a new toy, but how much does it help with....anything? A couple people on here have said that they have PDAs and they use them exclusively for a date book and address book, so in other words WORTHLESS. ever hear of a piece of paper? or even your hand will do in a pinch.

Alot of people have been talking about calculators and how they used them in school, well I'm class of 2000, I had my scientific calculator all through Jr. High and High school. my senior year our Calculus teacher loaned us all a TI-83s, and guess what happend, well only one person in the class put any games on it, but he went wild, I honestly thought he was gonna steal his when it was time to give 'em back at the end of the year. I think that calculators are over used it schools, I personally am soo dependent on mine that I sometime do simple adding on, NO JOKE.

I am reminded of an anecdote in the biography of Richard Feyman, Adventures of a Curious Character, it's about him and an abacus sellsman, long story short they compete to see who can do math faster and he uses alot of shortcuts he learned to speed up the calculations. I think that when a student has a calculator in front of him/her they tend not to think about it and turn into zombies, I shure did, and do. but doing math without calculators has it's advantages, get the student to think more, I know were talking about public school but I still expect 'em to think sometimes. I know I got off the topic alot but, I'm just sorta ranting so it's okay :)

So long story short, PDAs are relativly new and everyone is thinking that they will be everywhere in the school of the future, but people said the samething about laptops. Technology will move into the classroom very slowly, and most likely it will be the students who bring it there, and eventually the schools will accept it. But I personally don't like PDA's, who wants to use a stylus, as soon as one comes along that I can use voice recognition software with, then I'll get one.

  10. Re:Playing games does not _make_ people smarter on Study: Playing Computer Games Makes Kids Smarter · · Score: 1

You can make a study that proves just about anything. As for the social thing, I think there is a large differnce between how console games and PC based games are precived. if you play games on a PC your a geek, nerk, ect..., but if you play games on a console, "Whoa that guys cool!" But that might just have been when I was in school, I'm 18 and a sophmore in college. It also might be part of the mooch factor, "He has a playstation, if I act like I like him, he'll hook me up!"
