  1. Re:Easy to fund!!! on Repair Costs for Hubble Are Vexing to Scientists · · Score: 1

Or another answer could be two words, "reality show", I think Mark Burnett would be up for the challenge of making space travel entertaining for the general public again.

  2. Phish and chips? on CherryOS Not All It's Cracked Up To Be · · Score: 4, Insightful

Now this is what I call one sophisticated phishing scheme. They managed to get otherwise smart people knowledgeable about technology to hand over their personal info in the hopes of getting something most of them would admit sounds too good to be true. I wonder how many of the same people responded to the "email veerification request" messages claiming to be credit card companies. In my mind any company that has not proven anything in the real world is sure as sh*t not getting anything from me. I'd be curious how many people actually signed up on their website for the pre-release of the software.

  3. But not in Moscow, Idaho on Microsoft To Sell Win XP Starter Edition In Russia · · Score: 0

I live in Moscow, Idaho and I'm sure glad that it won't be here.
The first time I heard about this "version" of windows and how it had no networking I thought, "What is the point of having an OS for a desktop computer with no networking support?" Don't most people in general use computers for some sort of internet or networking purpose? I can't think of a better time to give a nice tux a try.

  6. Who listens to 64Kbps? on Listening Comparisons For Audio Codecs At 64kbps · · Score: 0, Flamebait

If I wanted to listen to fuzzy FM sounding music I'd just liten to the crap they play on the radio.

The only application this might be good for would be video files where you want to keep file size down. Streaming radio isn't much better than regular radio in my experience so I just listen to my own music.

  7. Re:News: US Gov't Charges SCO for 'Freedom' on SCO Targets US Government, TiVo · · Score: 1

I meant to say ninth of 13, not sixth of 9. The other information is correct.

  8. Re:News: US Gov't Charges SCO for 'Freedom' on SCO Targets US Government, TiVo · · Score: 1

Well, based on the ratification date of the sixth of the 9 required states for the constitution to become law(which was June 21, 1788; the state of New Hampshire), that makes 78573 days since. The sum total due the U.S. government from SCO would then be $157,146,000.

  10. First part doesn't make sense to me... on Senate Bill Would Make Clandestine Video Taping Illegal · · Score: 1

If taping is only allowable in public places without the knowledge of those being taped what happens to security cameras for private residences? Would these then fall into illegal surveillance? And what about the nanny watchers? Surely there must be concessions to these concerns, and if not there certainly should be.

  11. Anything named sex by convention... on Is Computer Sex Adultery? · · Score: 1

Anything with Sex in its name by convention of meaning would have to be adultery if you were in a commited relationship. This computer-sex, though not in the physical world, still constitutes a violation of the trust in a relationship and therefore would be adultery.

  12. Red Hat is Linux, just not THE Linux... on Red Hat Is Not Linux (dot org) · · Score: 1

To say Red Hat is not Linux us to say cheddar is not cheese. No one, to my knowledge, actually believes that Red Hat is THE Linux. And if anyone does, they are either newbies or people who heard about it on the Cnet News.com TV show. So if they have a problem with uninformed people they should quit the human race along with the likes of George Carlin.

  13. All X-Files Episodes are formulaic.... on X-Files FPS Episode · · Score: 1

The series is totally formulaic. There are only a handfull of episodes that are anything but formulaic. It was still cool to me. And the any episode with the Lone Gunman is tops in my book!

  14. Artists make money from concerts not album sales! on Pirates Steal Negative $1,400,000,000 from Music Industry · · Score: 1

Unless an artist consistently has gold or platinum selling albums they make no real profits from the album sales. But many make near $100,000 for a good concert show. Even a small show will get them about $40,000. When you consider that you pay $30 to see them for 3 hours in person that is how you really support them. Buying a CD for $16 bucks only benefits the company that sells the CD(ie: Sam Goody) or the Record company(ie:BMG). So if you get mp3s you really don't take anything from the artist. So from the artists point of view they most likely could care less whether you buy the CD or not as long as you go to the shows.
