Guns have been around for a long time and this crap never happened. If you want to blame someone, blame Dr. Spock for advising against a little discipline. Blame the parents for not taking care of the family. Blame the wife for having to get a job so they can afford to put food on the table, Instead of taking care of the kids..But a piece of molded metal is not even close to the origin of the underlying problems. I have a question: Assuming UCITA passes and I write an encryption program along the lines of PGP. A group of Anti-??? Zealots use it to send encrpted mail about destroying a ????. They are busted by the FBI becaused they purchased suspect items with a stolen credit card. Now there computer is confiscated and the FBI must reverse engineer my program to help decrypt the mail to aid in prosecution....But if reverse engineering is illegal...What's gonna happen?
Regardless of the best OS, Licensing practices, Open Source...I support what the customer want's. That way I get PAID. I try to steer them toward a better product. But Alas, as a government contractor, I've found out the hard way that M$ has a powerful sales/marketing influence and that is that! The reality is Bill Gates has made a lot of money for me!
I personally think this categorization is insane. The internet is more like cities than continents. Anyy good site has some commerce (Strip Mall) feature or advertising in there (except/. of course) It cost money to run any powerful site and so you need to do something to offset the cost. All good sites contain links to to other site (Air Travel) and some sites are always jammed (The beltway in Wash. DC). That's my.02 for the day.
After all the M$ bashing that's been going on for about the last, oh 5 years or so, I find it incredibly hard to believe that NT boxes are not the cause of this INCIDENT. At home I use NT,98,Linux,BSD. I use NT at work . Why? because that's what they pay me to run. I don't give a RATS ASS what OS my customer uses, As long as I have a job. My point is all systems are vulnerable to something. I have a feeling that if M$ products were creating the havoc, Everyone would be screaming twice as loud. My plan is to continue patching, reading the appropriate Security info and talking to my peers. Do I worry about NT,9x being attacked? Every day! Do I worry about the other OS's? Not as much. But I will continue to be vigilant anyway. M$ has it's problems, however I make good money thanks to BILL. My phone is not ringing off the hook to support Linux yet.
