WePad makes sense anyway. It's both pun of iPad and illustrates the product - it's more for us and since it uses Linux it allows multiple user accounts, good privacy and better security. iPad only has a single user and not even a guest account, do you really want to let your kids, friends or random people to use it access all your browser history, photos, emails and such?
It also looks awesome and you can use applications or develop them yourself. You can run scripts and most ssh in to the tablet. It shows Flash. At this point I would either get this or Courier, as the iPad seems really limited and you have to hack it for it to be any use. Oh and it supports multitasking too.
It really seems creepy if the blind perceive faces that way.
Eh.
Leaving aside the fact that I'm pretty sure they don't (just try touching a face and it will not "look" like that), what we perceive and look as beautiful things are just what we know or have heard of. It's wonderful you would categorize them as "creepy".
Exactly. Why is this news? Canonical calculated that they get better commissions from Google than Yahoo at this point. It leads me to believe that Google increased their payout for Canonical and they switched back from Yahoo.
Note that I do agree with you - I don't hope it happens, as I'm quite sure it would have an effect on European countries too (and where I live). But I do see why it would happen, and if US carries the same way it probably will. The economy collapse on its own is bad enough.
Maybe not yet, but what about when time goes by and they grow? You know, USA is far from China's only trading partner. Their products are shipped everywhere in the world. When they've stable enough, and if they have enough political/economic reason to do so, why you think they will keep supporting US?
And this is why US will eventually fall, like every other empire in the human history. Only thing that is needed for it is when China and Taiwan decide to increase their manufacturing prices. It's a bad economy as it is and everyone in the US is getting high pays only because of international loans. You can't live on loans forever - eventually someone will start gathering them back. Since this is politics as well, the only thing needed is to provide manufacturing, product building and technology research cheaper than the US. Oh wait, that's what has been happening for years in India and China and US companies are still going for it.
You don't need to have a war to win, just collapse the other country.
Seriously, sopssa, do you really have nothing more to do with your time than to troll slashdot all day long and comment multiple times on nearly every single story? I wish I had as much free time as you.
I work as a server admin and most of the time there isn't anything to do, but I still need to be around. Most of my work day is playing computer games, reading news sites, coding my own shit or writing to slashdot, and fixing things when something goes wrong. I've told you this before, but here it is again.
I've always seen the comma there: "Your rights, online". Makes a big difference. But yeah, this is more idle-worth than anything else.
No, I actually think its a good thing. It seems like US really needs this, and I would had been proud of my parents if they would had fight for a more open and sexually aware world for me. The truth is, everyone is going to have sex and 99% of people are going to do it during teenage. There will be problems if they don't know how to do it safely. It's fucking hilarious/sad that a teacher that teaches safety practices is threaten by an arrest to do so.
Excuse me, but what does this story have to do with my rights online at all? Or how is this a story worth of "news for nerds"?
There is no tech relevance. It's really a local educational issue that stuff like this happens in every district.
Slashdot editors really need to start picking up the slack. It's getting pretty thin pickings here nowadays.
It may surprise you, but most of us geeks also have sex. And considering the next generation of geeks, its probably better they are taught the safety things at schools.
The hypocrisy in US in unbelievable. Violence and killing people is all okay in TV, but when it's teaching persons about natural human function like sex it's all bad and must be hidden. Even while I live in Europe and sexuality is quite okayish here, my parents never taught anything about it. I learned it from school and from friends. And let me say this, what they taught in school was probably a lot more responsible than what my friends told me.
Sometimes I get the feeling that all of the hate about sexuality is from older people who don't know how to get, don't have the mindset to get it or are angry at other people who have fun doing it. After all, when you're adult it's one of the most fun things to do.
Are you seriously arguing that there is freedom of speech and real democracy in China?
I'm not saying there is real democracy in China and neither do I believe there to be. But I also understand that theres need to doubt what some single party tells you. I have lived past the wars and, conflicts and corporate uprising in Europe and I know how you can't really trust anything. Theres nationalism, corporate PR, lies from governments to give a reason to attack other countries and their people. I know nothing is as black and white as people tend to think. I also know when people like to push an agenda, they do it to extremes. Even while China definitely could be an abusive country, I think they a have a reason to do so. The country was a mess before the current government came in. They can't just change that in a day.
They don't usually analyze anything, it's only in a few cases like the recent killing of those reporters. Almost 99% time you can just download the original material and do your judgment yourself.
But Virtual Machine's are only as good as they're designed. Even the most known and biggest vendor VMWare has had serious bug and exploits in their software. For one example see this, which let an exe running in the guest OS exploit a vulnerability in the VM code to get code run in the host OS. A serious security risk, especially when were talking about Wall Street. Even getting an access to their internal network opens new possibilities.
Just because of this I think it's a stupid idea. Even more so because the gain is not really that much, but it can be really destructive. Someone will find a way to exploit it.
I'm from Sweden and it's not exactly an USA-hating country (actually seem to be kissing their ass quite often). Do you mean to say that just because I criticize USA's actions and the ongoing hypocrisy I hate them? Is that an example of the famous free speech?
I don't think you can go so far as to call it a "plain fact" that the PRC is a "criminal dictatorship" (in the mold of the DPRK for example). That is an opinion and a fairly incendiary one, ultimately not necessary to your point.
The Chinese government doesn't allow open criticism of the government and they don't allow dissident candidates on the ballot. That makes the Chinese government criminal by any reasonable interpretation.
You are saying like you know thats a definite fact and in all cases so. If Chinese government doesn't allow criticism of government, why did they allow Google to criticize them? I'm certain they censor and control some things, but I'm not sure it's all so black and white as you think.
It's not why they did anything, but how they did it. They have employees, need to pay for servers and other services. If some organization in the world should get donations, it's Wikileaks. Even democratic nations should support them, but I can clearly see why not. Instead even US tries to shut them down and have been spying and interrogating their workers.
The article states they posted this three months ago: “Have encrypted videos of U.S. bomb strikes on civilians. We need super computer time,"
Care to tell me why that doesn't work? It works for me. Sure you also need to hook some calls, but even that simple thing tricks most people, including good admins.
That is actually a common misconception in the open source community. All dildos work well in an anus as well as they do in a vagina. Although there are no vaginas in the open source community.
Uh, I wouldn't be so sure about. What about those rabbit dildos that have the external part for pleasuring clitoris? Even while men do have the sensitive area called grundle (between your balls and asshole), it doesn't work for that but is only in the way. Then theres also dildos that are in a certain shape to pleasure women's g-spot, which will only hurt in ass. So no, they all don't work. That's why there are specific dildos designer for ass, either mens or womens.
Sure, but nothing works against every threat. You will never discover a single perfect defense. It doesn't mean its useless to harden the single parts, like in this case OS components to keep rootkits away.
It's dead easy to make a rootkit for the existing operating systems. In Windows you need to hook the system API's. In Linux it's even easier - just replace the system executables. You even have a source code for them, making it really easy to add a simple code that checks if file/process/etc has certain text like "~abc~" and then just ignore that file.
Where are you putting your email? On a private server? Even if you own all of the hardware and store it on your own property, the government can still get at it with a warrant.
As for a private server with some hosting company, I'd be very surprised if they protected my data with the same vigor Google would. Especially given that failure to do proper monitoring got an entire datacenter confiscated by the FBI for the actions of a single customer.

+1 Insightful
I can't believe they joked and laughed about it too. Where is the sympathy towards other people?
