I'm actually getting a bit frustrated with Solaris compared with AIX.
>Sun - UFS (have to buy VxFS) >AIX - JFS
>Sun - Disk Suite (or pay for VxVM) >AIX - LVM included
>Sun - Sun Enterprise Cluster where Sun wants to have you pay for an engineer to come out and set everything up for you. >IBM - HA/CMP. You can do it yourself or have IBM do it.
That's not even touching on the fact that Sun's technical support isn't always the greatest not to mention the fact that our IBM marketing rep kicks ass. We have a problem with IBM, it doesn't stay a problem for long.
PLUS our IBM CE's that normally work on our account are some pretty bright guys. So rather than saying why WOULD you go with IBM, I sometimes wonder, why wouldn't you?
Oh that's real smart. I don't have a bias against Linux, I have a bias against it as a server because it can't handle the loads that my Solaris, AIX and Dynix boxes can.
Bah, open source bigots are getting just as bad as Redmond.
Seeing RRT gives me hope for Roller Coaster Tycoon! That would be awesome!
Still want Civ II though. CTP is nice but it's just not quite Civ II MPE (I suppose TOT would be okay but the interface wasn't all that friendly when I was playing it at E3)
To those that thing that highschool is nothing but conforming to the 'popular' standard I'm here to say 'it aint so'. At least, not everywhere.
Granted, maybe it's because of the area I grew up or maybe it was just luck that followed fellow geeks and myself at our schools but it wasn't bad at all.
Most of the jocks were pretty nice people. People that even did well in school (some of our football players were honors students with 4.0+ GPA's). The geek culture included people that were "popular", rich, etc. etc. Some of the jocks were geeks! I played high school volleyball yet was a geek. Hell, one of my best friends was a popular/jock.
We even had several teachers that were pro-geek. They offered their classrooms as hangouts at recess (nutrition) & lunch. Certainly better than the auditorium dances or other BS stuff they tried to get us to do.
Things aren't the same everywhere. Sure, we certainly had a few outcasts but it wasn't anywhere near as bad as what some of these kids are going through. I really do feel bad for them. I was lucky. I can only hope that more out there can be as lucky as I was.
Headhunters are pond scum that live for nothing else than to throw you into their highest paying customer's position so that they can make money off your salary.
HR departments are in place to tell you what you aren't allowed to do. That and to make your life utterly miserable with policy "changes" and such. They're filth. They do 'research' on the 'industry average' for salaries then try to pay top talent that amount. It's a waste. They're useless. They should be shot.
Okay, maybe they do provide a few beneficial things like (attempting to) take care of benefits and things like that. Never mind that trying to get ahold of anyone from HR is impossible because they're all out and about on recruiting trips to China, etc.
Is it just me or do I sound a bit negative on these subjects?:P
Because it's installation procedures are far more of a pain than Red Hat's. Debian's number of programs to chose from is great but the installation program is just awful. I'd easily take Red hat or Slackware on ease of install.
Why to fear commercial appz/gamez? Bah!

:The reason is quite simple, I don't use Linux:because it's Linux, I use Linux because it's free:software, and even if linux will stay free and we:will bring all the commercial world to Linux, and:we will be flooded by properity software, then:what have we done?
I use Linux. Not because it's Linux, not because it's free but because it works. You could be potentially seen as someone that just wants a free ride on all software because it presents less of a burden on your finances.
Well, games just aren't all going to be that way. Feel lucky that any commercial game companies release any source code. If all you're going to do is whine then why not write to the companies that make these decisions rather than sitting in this forum doing little to help what you see as a problem.
I don't care if software is free. I don't care if it has source. I do care that it allows me to get my work done or, in the case of games, entertain me to the level I expect of a particular game. I have no problem supporting those that provide me with my requirements.:This is what i think is the mistake of KDE for:example, and let's ignore the fact that QT is:going to be free, in the days that QT was not:free, what's the taste to free the world from:Microsoft if you bring them to the control of:some other properity software company(Troll:Tech)?
KDE was a mistake in your eyes. I've never seen a problem with KDE and have been quite happy with it for some time now. I couldn't really care less if QT is free or not. It makes no difference as long as it works.

Techie: The server just went down! Manager: Well, just fail over to the other server! Techie: That IS the other server!
I just wish they'd stop sending us firefly cards that die out every so often. Sheesh.

...and to some people, free is all that matters.
Please, grow up. Your arrogance and ignorance are annoying. You're the troll. Leave.

But... I imagine he wanted to run it at a relatively decent speed.
