Having been a rabid Mac user and advocate since 1992, I have to say: Apple *sucks* at mice. My roommate has a wireless Mighty Mouse, and it never right-clicks properly for me.
However, you may love it; my roommate swears by the thing, and never has any problems.
So basically, my post is useless, except to say that whenever you can, try before you buy.
Dumb argument. OS X has a command line. Windows has one too, and also has (Windows Key)-R for the "Run..." box. There are plenty of reasons to have a GUI, and feeling smug about being uber-geek isn't one of them, sorry.
That the traffic from spam emails rivals that of all the other activity on the internet put together makes me feel like network providers and end users alike are being unwillingly scammed out of the services they provide and/or pay dearly for.
That's the thing about Windows that really shines through in the ads - "Lauren" is the Windows version of "hot". You could do better, but you just don't feel like putting in the effort.
When I go into stores like Wal-Mart, Best Buy, FYE, etc. I only ever see a handful of DS titles. Never do they have the game that I'm looking for, and even GameStop has been slacking lately.
I'm playing Chinatown Wars right now (it's AWESOME!) and I had to go to 3 stores to find it.
I bet DS sales would be a lot better if stores would carry more than just Animal Crossing and 15 different versions of Pokemon.
One of the reasons Amtrak is so slow is because it has to use private railways, and the freight gets priority. Amtrak has to use Southern Pacific's lines, etc., and when Southern Pacific has a train of their own it gets priority. I've experienced sitting in one spot on a non-moving Amtrak train for several hours while the owner of the track got its slow freight train through. Seriously, slow freight literally gets priority over passenger rail - that's crazy.
Very true - except in the case of Acela, this isn't true; Amtrak owns a large portion (if not all) of the Northeast Corridor. The reason Amtrak is slower here is basically track limitations. MBCR and CSX need to schedule around Amtrak Regional and Acela services, and for the most part also run pretty smooth because of it.
When I took Amtrak from Boston to Chicago, the train arrived four hours late because of delays due to slow freight ahead.
You're of course talkng about the 448-449 Lake Shore and Lake Shore Limited (Albany-Boston branch). Those trains are about the most pathetically slow on the whole of the Amtrak system. Inbound to Boston is regularly 4-15(!) hours late, and this has been going on for over a decade now. This is due to scheduling and maintenance work by CSX (and ConRail before them).
Is it any wonder no one likes rail travel in the USA? The sad part is there used to be two sets of tracks over most of the Massachusetts route, but they where ripped up. If we're going to do high-speed rail, let's make exclusive rails with no grade crossings.
The city/county/state population needs to decide, as a whole, that they WANT and are WILLING TO SUBSIDIZE public transportation such that it isn't only usable in a narrow band from 6:30-8:30am and 4:30-6:30pm with crapass route coverage the rest of the time.
You know, it's funny how the "Apple fanbois" are slammed on all over the internet left and right, when it's just this kind of "Macs are gay" and "HA! THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH OS X AFTER ALL! IN YOUR FUCKING FACE" kind of shit is thrown at Mac users all the time.
That kind of attitude towards Mac people just fuels the fire. You all complain about Mac users, but in many cases you're just inviting a battle. I mean, it's gotten so bad that even Apple and Microsoft's marketing teams are tossing palettes on that bonfire. Grow up!
Considering this is the first report I've ever seen of an OS X exploit in the wild, unpatched and under heavy use, while I've read article after articleabout Windows suffering the same problem over and over again, I think the smugness was slightly warranted.
That being said, as a Mac user for over 15 years (and an Apple user for over 20), I'm glad the uninformed fanboys now have to shut the fuck up.
Time machine is awesome. So are the multiple desktop.
How about "The new APIs are important to maintaining compatibility and speed, as each new Mac OS X improves performance."
Time machine is flashy and all, but when discussing the merits of OS upgrades on Slashdot, "it looks pretty" doesn't aid in the Battle Of Everyone Else Thinking Mac Users Are Pussies.
Perhaps I remember reading the article a few weeks ago, and don't need to click. As it is, though, the only way I can find out what you're talking about is by clicking on the link and loading the page.
Why not set your history to around 60-90 days? Then the URL will be the "visited" color and you'll know you've been to it already.
The issue here is trust. Without a audit/paper trail, the machine could show the mark correctly and *still* register an "incorrect" vote. How hard is it to print a reciept? My ATM gives me a reciept.
If the issue is trust, what is to stop the machine from showing you a fake X *AND* printing you a fake receipt? With a fake bar code that scans for the wrong candidate (even thought it doesn't appear that way) during a recount?
What about a giant space shield to reflect the suns rays? Could make it ultra thin from carbon fiber, probably wouldn't even need to be out there very long...

"Proactive"? What does the prefix "pro" mean? Do you mean pre-emptive?
Proactive

Will there be a full appeal with oral arguments?
I'll certainly argue that oral is fully appealing!

This reminds me of the Simpsons episode where the shyster sells them a monorail.
This reminds me of 5 years ago when the internet stopped being funny or intelligent.

I applaud you, sir. Great post.

That would be like saying IE is safe, and its the users fault for purposefully clicking the "Install ActiveX" button that happened to install malware.
...that IS the user's fault.
OSX is a reasonable operating system whose reputation is ruined by technologically uneducated users :(
As a Mac user and advocate for the better part of two decades, all I can say is "Buddy, you don't know the half of it."

Microsoft will be dropping support at this time as well.

And who knows, Drunk programmers would probably improve the product...
Maybe... after 6 beers, I know I get sidetracked attempting to install FreeBSD...
