Which is pretty funny when you think about it... Do they have anything against a certain vampire in Transylvania, for instance!?
If you haven't already done it, I'd file a bug report. Type/bug (blahblah) to open a bug report window with the command argument pre-entered as the subject line for the bug.
You can turn off the profanity filter. Go to Menu > Options and I think it is in the leftmost tab of the options window. Then you should no longer see this. But it's a per-user setting and is done on the receiving end so if your recipient has the filter on still they will see the censored word.
Why it thinks "count" is a swear word, I've got no idea, but turning off the nanny filter remains one of the first things I do when setting up a new character (I seem to remember that the filter is, like the UI colors, one of the things that isn't a global preference. Arrrgh).
Then get the law behind the rules changed. Or stop being immature. Or did it not occur to you that a natural evolution of my comment was that you can keep going up the ladder?
The law may be stupid and dangerous to you, but it IS STILL IN FORCE.
I have no respect for people who can't handle the fact that they are selfish idiots, and I'm sorry (not really) that you are apparently unable to comprehend their selfishness.
Hey, if you think you can do better with making the law, RUN FOR OFFICE AND CHANGE IT.
But it looks like you'd rather take the lazy way out. Just like most of the other idiots out there.
It's lazy idiots like you who'd rather take a few minutes to whine and blindly break the law with no eyes toward the consequences in terms of public safety or financial punishment, rather than do the right thing, which takes time and effort.
No wonder this country is going to hell in a fucking handbasket.
I went through Atlanta a few weeks ago and I did exactly that. It is not my problem if other people want to do something illegal. I will not do something illegal just so some selfish idiot can do so. If someone hits me I WILL report them as driving illegally and they will pay for their mistake in tickets and higher insurance for putting someone else at risk. And if I am injured in a rearending, I WILL sue for my medical expenses.
You cannot decide that a law is inconvenient and that you will break it while trying to get it changed to what you think it should be. You follow it and obey the rules until it is changed.
Don't like it?
Move to somewhere where you CAN drive 70 legally on the local interstate. Or stop whining and deal with it.
"Also, as someone who's recently been burgled and had his phone stolen, if by `unlocking` phones you're talking about changing the IMEI number so that stolen phones can be reused after they've been reported stolen"
Not at all. It's a reference to unlocking phones so that they can be used with any carrier, not the one that provided the phone. That is explicitly legal under US law.
If you speed on a public street you deserve everything you get.
There are ways to deal with oddly-low speed limits. Find out who's responsible for setting them and call and ask how to request a road resurvey. Request said survey in writing. Follow the procedures. They may well be using old survey results. Find out what the rules are regarding how the results must be interpreted. See if the limit is indeed correct for that road when considering the rules. If it is not, find out how to file the appropriate complaint. If all that fails, then you could consider taking the matter to the appropriate authorities and/or court.
Just whining that you think the rule is wrong doesn't mean you can break it whenever you feel like it. The civic process is open to all citizens. Use it instead of the typical spineless "I don't think this is right but I'm going to take the easy way out instead of doing something" bitchfest.
No sympathy for you if you get a ticket. The rules apply to you just like everyone else. You are not that fucking special.
Shill bidding is forbidden on eBay and in just about any other auction house. I imagine you'd find the shill's bid invalidated and you'd get a black mark for failing to sell to the real winning bidder. Just use a reserve if you have a solid offer but want to see if you can get more.
It's a binding contract. Every time you bid you are told you are entering into a contract with the seller to purchase the item. This means that the seller is bound by contract to sell it to you.
This guy should have set his reserve higher; by not setting his reserve high enough he lost potential profits. I've done the same thing myself before, and knew that it would be unfair to not go through with the sale.
My sole black mark on my feedback record is from a woman who thought I was being rude when she wanted to get out of having to buy my item because she had bought it for less somewhere else. So she gave me negative feedback for not letting her back out of an "all sales final" (which was disclosed in the description) purchase.
Just buying something on teh intarweb doesn't make you automatically able to weasel out of a deal you don't like. People need to learn that the facelessness of the Net doesn't mean you can abuse whoever is on the other end.
And it was closed captioned! I made a point of writing to Gabe Newell (he revealed his email address in the Lost Coast demo, asking for feedback) thanking the programmers profusely for this. It makes a HUGE difference to those of us who are hard of hearing.
That's the kind of job anyone would be lucky to have -- getting paid to do something they're talented at, and loving it enough to keep doing it even if there was no money to be made from it.
You got that backwards; Elton writes the music, Bernie the lyrics... and... they're still collaborating together. The latest album "The Captain And The Kid" is all about that.
(the Rocket Man CD is just a greatest-hits compilation intended to get his name out there and expose listeners to his music again who may not have heard of him, or not have heard his older stuff).
Naturally, this being Slashdot, anyone who says something like "shut down the internet" is going to be taken way out of proportion. Especially if they're a celebrity.
I'm mostly bothered by all the hate Elton seems to be getting. I'm surprised that there aren't lots of anti-gay remarks (although maybe there are; I'm just replying to the replies I got while sleeping, not re-reading the thread) and I don't know why more people can't respect artists they may not listen to. Honestly, if people don't like someone's music, they can just not listen to it. I like his music, I like it a lot (you should see how much of my music library is his work, including live stuff) but I don't hate on other artists.
I know, I know, it's Slashdot, what should I expect?
I thought it was a pretty nice gesture, actually. It was a well-known song when it was originally released, he's a well-known individual, he WAS her friend, and that's how he showed his respect and how he chose to mourn her publicly. Who are we to jeer and say that that's inappropriate? I don't think it's right to be arrogant enough to think we know any better.
Losing friends is hell enough without idiots like us on the internet pointing and laughing.
True. It does come from seeking attention or crying for help quite often, but by no means was I actually attempting to point out that that's the ONLY cause.
In this particular case, though, that's what it did turn out to be. I don't understand why anyone would resort to that instead of simply calling off an engagement (he was having cold feet about getting married), but since I'm not Elton, I don't think I should try to make a guess. I just don't feel that it's anyone's business other than the person in question regarding this kind of thing; never have.
While that is true (and it's an unusual arrangement, I think, in the music world), I would guess that he probably receives more lyrics than actually are turned into music, so he likely does have a lot of input as to what we (the public) finally end up hearing. It seems to be a workable method, so I don't see anything wrong with it. It's a good way to combine different talents.
Is there anything necessarily wrong with being stuck in one's ways, in this case, though? Computers have been ingrained so heavily into the process of making music these days that many bands can't perform live because they depend so heavily on postprocessing. Yet Elton's live shows are said by many (including myself) to be even better than what he produces in the studio. Real musical talent is like that -- I'm not saying that you can't make good music with technical help, mind; it's just not absolutely necessary. (Elton also runs his own label; his days of being stuck in a restrictive contract are long over. I've heard the music he did make when he was under the contract, though, and even that is largely great although of course there are some "dud" songs I don't care for, but that happens with any artist due to peoples' varying tastes).
I also agree that the Internet helps us discover new music; I've learned of new artists myself that way. I just don't really think that "stuck in his ways" is really the problem as much as not really "getting it". The guy's 60 years old. Common problem for that age group, unfortunately. Most likely this is due to the resulting misconceptions of what people actually do online.
NASA, you're a government agency. Why are you leaving millions of citizens out in the cold?
And by the way, it's "Endeavour". The orbiter is named for Capt. Cook's ship. Cook was British.
I have the license plate frame. Too bad it is sort of tacky looking and sits on my mantel instead of on my car due to that...
Which is pretty funny when you think about it ... Do they have anything against a certain vampire in Transylvania, for instance!?

For using something that ISN'T full of security holes? Hah.

Of course, then there's the phoenix in the Harry Potter series, named Fawkes ... ... after the guy who tried to blow up Parliament.
Not a very good omen, I think!
That's an MER spoof. Doesn't even look close to what the MPL looked like.

I *am* wondering why the heck this got approved AND on the front page, yes.
Plenty since then, plenty before that, and that "canned music" actually is quite well-liked by his fans. Don't like it? Don't buy it.

Nostalgia. Either that or someone had premonition dreams about this crazy guy named Steve Irwin. Crikey!
It's our only chance of living; take all you need to live inside ... ;)
