Exactly. Thank you for agreeing that military is an industry. A key industry. Which when Clinton downsized it caused ripple effects that contributed to the 2000-2003 recession. It was military build up that brought us out of it. As it brought us out of the late 70s recession... As it brought us out of the 1939 Great Depression...

Nuclear deterrence via an overwhelming stockpile of missiles is the defense... Maintaining a football team is not deference either. It is both offense AND defense. That also provides many people with jobs and healthcare.

Using 3rd party hardware. In may cases we have been able to swap out logic boards - its just cheaper to buy a new computer. In the late 90's you could swap out the CPU! Desktop Macs have always been upgradable and expandable. Different story for laptops, but you could always put in more RAM and a bigger harddrive. About the only thing a Mac user could do *with ease* is build a Mac from scratch. But the typical Mac user would want to do this anyway. The core of the Apple solution is off the shelf, plug it in, and it just works.

I am on a 3 yr old MacBookPro right now that is just fine snf speedy. My iPhone is 2 yrs old. My media Mac Mini is 4 yrs old, my second media Mac mini is 5 yrs old. Even my iBook G3 that is dedicated to playing music in the living room is 7 years old. All of them run fine. And only the non-intel ones are not running the latest OS (but they run the latest iTunes, Quicktime, and other apps that matter). Cost per hour of use without upgrading is far superior than those other platforms.

And best yet, on my Intel Macs I can run OS X, Windows, and Linux - all at the same time. FInd me a Linux user or Windows user who can do that. Off the shelf.

A small amount of weapons could do the *offensive* job but the smaller the cache, the more vulnerable they are to detection and interception. The defense concept is mutual assured destruction - and it requires a staggering overwhelming abundance of ready-to-use weapons. What really screwed the USA was the Carter admin agreeing not to further nuclear weapon r&d. We were on the way to a half-life of a matter of days in which the impact site could be habitual again...

Regardless of the morals and ethics, the bottom line is its good skilled and technical jobs for America that include retirement packages and healthcare. Get rid of the nukes and we put 10s of thousands of people out of work. (This is definitely putting my dad out of work.)

Plus the USA has the right to amass any sort of defense we feel necessary. We are a sovereign nation - no other entity has legal domain over us. Time and time again other nations break their promises to the US. To trust them at their word is foolhardy.

Net-neutrality almost ensures that everyone one has an equal opportunity/experience on the internet (for those who have access). It is the first step to freeing information.

As well as it is evident that Comcast, and other companies like it, want to move to a measured-rate means of charging. Combine that with tiered traffic speeds and the cost of using the internet is going to skyrocket. Online gaming and media streaming will cost a fortune to the user.

And while the FCC is not the appropriate entity to regulate this, they were our only hope in maintaining net-neutrality. Democrats and Republicans, and politicians in general have demonstrated time and time again they are not capable of managing issues like these.
