Actually there are only 5 major ones. The rest are tiny. Samsung has something like 34% of the market, with the top 3 owning 70 or 80%. And remember, Samsung corralled a bunch of LCD manufacturers into price-fixing and was fined $3 billion for it. In fact the DOJ began an anti-trust investigation into Samsung for NAND flash prices but dropped it: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=aWgWSqhs_Jk0 If you read about the recent revelations at the SEC, it's not hard to see corruption occurring at the DOJ as well.

Carmack is a game developer, not a game player. He obviously enjoys the challenge of coding for limited systems, but gamers aren't going to settle for feeble touch-screen controls and $2 time wasters. And just like the console vs. PC issue, smartphone games are much more easily pirated.

Man you're an idiot. The 3DS was overpriced and came out with terrible game selection. Portable consoles are dying? The PSP sold better than the NDS in Japan. Otherwise it's over 5 years old and on its tail of hardware sales. You really think gamers are going to buy a "shell" for their capacitive touchscreen phones to approximate the experience of a hard-button handheld? Never, ever become a market analyst. You'd suck at predicting the future.

Android phones are overpriced as well. In fact all cell phones are priced to achieve Apple margins, which is ridiculous. It will be Chinese competitors who are willing to break the collusion and accept lower margins that will bring down the prices. Already a Chinese company is planning to release a 1.5 GHz dual-core Android phone for $310, and a 1.2 GHz dual-core variant for even cheaper.
