Carmack has already stated during interviews that the id Tech 5 engine would not work with extremely open-ended worlds like Fallout and TES, so you're out of luck. And why would Bethesda not reuse their TES 5 engine for the Fallout series?
Uh no they haven't. SSDs were at $1/GB in 2008. Then they shot up as industry consolidation, capex cutting, and demand soared. They've only come close to $1/GB again this year.
The EV industry is far from innovative. Their drive trains are ridiculously inefficient. All they've done is taken out a gas engine and replaced it with a battery. They should be able to achieve twice the mileage from the same battery life as they get now. I don't understand why no one is willing to innovate.
They'll never be commonplace. They're just too expensive and difficult to make. The industry plans to transition to something else by the middle of the decade.
Let's not forget densities are bound to double sometime soon. We've been on 2-3 TB drives for 2 years now, with manufacturers holding back on releasing the latest platter density advances into the market. Once the new tech comes out $/GB (should we use TB now?) will come down significantly, even with a 5-10% premium.
There will be no jump to SSDs. The price of entry into the market is too high ($25 billion for a new fabrication plant), and supply is constantly being outstripped by growing demand. Cost of production is also not falling fast enough. The industry expects to transition to a new and more efficient technology by 2014 or 2015, whatever that may be.
You could put a puny calculator solar charger on a Kindle and it would keep it powered forever. I have no idea why there's no solar powered e-readers in the US market. I saw a Korean prototype once, but why not in the West befuddles me.
But you could easily have a company that owns a chunk of spectrum in say a single urban environment deploy a fixed wireless DIDO system. This would provide huge amounts of competition to the duopoly DSL/cable ISPs.
If you can go on Newegg you can already get a 7 inch dual-core tablet for $300. Or you could get the Transformer for $400. Pretty soon Archos will release their own 10 inch dual core versions for sub $400. Heck the Viewsonic G Tablet has been out since last year for $300. Competitors will drive down the price of these tablets until they've pushed margins so low we finally get sub $300 10 inch tablets. Until then however I think the iPad 2 is just better bang for the buck.
Do you really think THIS is the time to be worrying about our debt? We're in the middle of a massive lack of demand and the UK has provided thorough evidence that austerity will send our economy flailing into contraction and a double recession. The UK passed a bill to balance the budget with 50/50 spending cuts and revenue increases. Obama wants 75/25 spending cuts and revenue increases. And besides we don't have a spending problem. We have a revenue problem, with taxes for EVERY bracket at historical lows, especially for the ultra wealthy and corporations. Take a look at the Congressional Progressive Caucus's Budget, which solves the budget crisis with nary a spending cut.
Are you kidding? Have you not heard of warehousing? Verizon and AT&T squat on tons of unused spectrum that prevents competitors from entering the wireless space. Other companies like Dish have spectrum but have no intention of building a network. They hold onto it as a speculative "asset" hoping they can cash out when spectrum becomes scarce and wireless providers are desperate for more.
Well you're a moron then. The US government spends almost all of its money on Medicare, SS, and the military. NASA's budget is $19 billion/year. The military spends $20 billion/year air conditioning tents in the Middle East. You think $19 billion/year to explore space and inspire youth to join engineering programs and apply their intelligence is a waste? That's why you're a moron.
Lol... "cower in my shadow". Says the moron with a 2 million + ID. Oh god that's hilarious. What is it with the arrogant teens on Slashdot? Why don't you get out of your parents' house and live in the real world a bit?
Well you're a douche for not stopping your uploads and asking them exactly what they meant, and how you were exceeding your storage space and traffic limit. If you don't answer their e-mails what do you expect to happen you moron?

2 GB HDDs huh? You must be ecstatic.

Hopefully from now on Motorola phones will be completely open and run standard Android OS as well.
Because most people leave their cellphones face up when they set them down on a table.

How... how did you get such a low UID? Did you go psycho over the years or were you crazy when you first subscribed to /.?
The top 5 executives at Verizon earned over $250 million over the last 4 years. That's a far cry from $50,000 you moron.
Uh... socially conservative positions are the norm throughout the east.

Uh... they work out the costs: http://www.dslprime.com/dslprime/42-d/4148-costs-and-caps
I remember hearing about this. Do you have a source by any chance?
As long as technology advances along, productivity will increase, and so will growth.

You're basically making stuff up. None of what you said is true.

Are you in America? That is a very, very sweet sounding story. But there are many places in America where those kinds of laws don't exist.
