The metric/decimal system is consistent (10 up, 10 down) and relates volume, mass, temperature, etc. quite nicely. It's not perfect, but it's better than imperial/US because it's consistent. I think it's also worth mentioning that the imperial system was a new standard created to unify the diverse measures that had been used locally. There were different feet, furlongs and miles.
    >"So, how many cubic meters in a liter "
I don't know what they teach kids today, but not so long ago schools in Europe taught that 1 cubic meter = 1000 liters, and so 1 liter = 0.001 cubic meters. Grams in a cubic meter of water? 1 cubic meter = 1000 liters = 1000 kg = 1,000,000 grams (Assuming ideal conditions). It's 10 up down and across, not 16, 12, 5280, 63360...
Off the top of your head: How many US oz in a cubic foot? How many pounds does a cubic foot of water weight? How many stones does a cubic foot of water weight? The British and others also switched from their non-decimal currency to decimal currency because it's saner than calculating things like this: How many shillings are there in a guinea and 2 thrupence? How many farthings is a half crown and 8 florins?

I guess berashith (222128) refers to the notion creationists have that evolution means that things such as crocoducks could occur. They think that a duck egg hatches and out comes a crocoduck through random mutations. That's the kind of wrong idea of evolution they have.

My experience is the opposite: I used to suffer many short pauses since 3.0 to 3.6. Then, I completely uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox (deleting even the leftover directories) when Fx 4 was released and voila -no more pauses. It was a bit of a hassle, since I only recovered my bookmarks & history, but it was worth it because I no longer experienced the annoying pauses. If you think this bug fits your problem, consider voting for it. Cheers.

It's difficult to say what can be wrong with your Fx installation from here, but I can tell you about a drastic method that worked for me: I had Firefox 3.5 in my current computer, then upgraded to 3.6 and then to 4. Things weren't nice. Then, I backed up my bookmarks, wrote down my add-ons and uninstalled Firefox. Completely. Including profiles and all Firexox files inside system folders. Registry entries too. (There are how-to's out there.) Then, I installed Fx 4 anew, restored my bookmarks and added my add-ons again. No problems since then. It was a PITA :) Now I even use Firefox Nightlies and they work fine too.

TL;DR: It could be a dirty/old profile/problem with an add-on/plug-in. Complete Firefox uninstall and reinstall should solve the problem.

Just to add a bit more info: I've been using Firefox nightlies since Firefox 4 with Add-on compatibility reporter. From 3.6 to 4, many extensions were truly broken. Once they were updated to work with 4, most of them will work with Firefox 10 nightly without need for updates. I'm currently using 24 extensions, about 10 are marked incompatible with Fx 10 nightly, but they work anyway.
