Optimizing John Doe software to take advantage of more cores is nearly impossible.
Try optimizing word or powerpoint or IE...

Personally, I'm dying to get my hands on an 8+ core workstation.

As stated before, there is virtually no consumer software wich takes advantage of 2(or more) cores.
As a softwareengineer I can also tell you writing good parralel software is one of themost difficult things.
Furthermore it is hard to think of software wich you, the consumer, can use wich can take advantage of parralel programming.
I know what you'r thinking: one core should be enough for everybody.

What will be next if this doesn't succeed? Will they be building their own spaceship and travel where no man has gone before? Or will they just get a job a girlfriend and a normal life. And go where no trekky has gone before...
Indeed, sounds to me like Sony's marketing behemoth is getting into top gears promoting cell in any way possible. Although this might not be directly connected to Sony. Wild claims and theorecal performance papers have been wrong in the past when it came to yet another product with mind blowing specs(Crusoe anyone).

A computer cannot positifely reconise a head or a face(yet). The americans have done extended tests with that and it didn't work. So that's not an option.
I work at a high security department of a large company. I have to pass the iris scan on a daily basis and have never had any trouble with the machine not accepting my eye. And you don't want to know how my eyes look after a weekend of drinking and barely no sleep. You don't have to open your eyes very wide or anything that would make your eyes water. You just look into the machine the same way as you normaly look at something.... Vere rarely the systems doesn't accept you the first time but when you try for a second time the system gets it. We are talking about a 10-15 second procedure so You can't copmplain about that. I don't see the problem.
However, the USA commited a crime themselves in trying to get these criminals. A country MUST follow the rules they want others to obbey if they want to be taken serieus. This is an absolute disaster for international law. Wherever I am and from whatever country I come, I have to obbey american law or i can go to jail. If america has this kind of influence in the world then the rest of the world must have the same kind of influence in america or else it is not a democratic state....
You can take this further by stating that if a you buy an egg and sperm (sounds like a take-out)
the baby isn't yours anymore.
I mean who's the father and who's the mother? And what will the child think when he/she grows up, will it ask for a meeting with the biological parents and will that be allowed?
