I spent 10 years working for "body shops" after I passed a certain age milestone, than after passing one more of those milestones, I could not get a job at all, period.
The "recruiters" or "headhunters" lie to you, keep you running around for nothing, bring you in to their offices for nothing, don't read the resumes, and other really stupid stuff that you'd expect from a bunch of mindless coke fiends.
The industry now (high tech) is all about getting labor on the cheap and all about not giving workers any of the benefits that we took for granted during most of my working lifetime. Surftemps (Tempsurfs?) and H1B's are how the multibillionaire punks "get over" on the labor laws here in the US of A, as a "Temp" you can be let go because you have gas & you get no benefits. As a "guest worker" (H1B) not only can you be fired for clearing you throat during a meeting but you can be deported too!
I know why people from "developing" countries come here, money, something in short supply (back home). But why the hell do I see people from western Europe working here? Maybe I'm missing something?

VI is a way for snotty nosed kids to show off that they "know" vi, it lacks the functionality and ease of integration of emacs, hell, i'd rather use ee or pico than vi.
How not to design an OS if it wasn't for Windows? How good an OS could be if it wasn't for OS/2? How a micro (UNIX) should work if it wasn't for Xenix? How cheap commodity PC's could get off the ground without DOS?
I'm not a fan of MS, but I (think)Iv'e kept an open mind!
It's worse than it seems, older people (like me) can't get any Decent private (non medicare) medical coverage if there are pre-existing medical conditions. Fortunatly my wife has me on her plan, without her I'd be screwed.
Funny, but I was laid off from my desktop support job in 2002 and have been unable to get a job since then. After sending out thousands of resumes for anything even remotely within my skillset I am still unemployed. The toll of this long term unemployment has been pretty bad, as I'm now disabled from all those years of inactivity and have burned my savings down to nothing.
If my wife didn't have a good job I'd be homeless.
IMHO, all this economic "happy talk" is pure election year bullshit!
