From original poster: They've figured out how to turn American money into Canadian money! Just shrink 40%, kill off 40% of its value.

He wasn't saying the Canadian dollar is equal to the US dollar. He was saying they have found a way to reduce the size and monetary value of the coin 40%, therefore making it worth the same as Canadian money. Also it was meant to be funny, which I found it to be.

You must be a trekkie... They would be the only people to say Gene Roddenberry was a visionary.
I believe a visionary is someone who predicts a future, then because of his prediction it becomes true. I would place Arthur C Clarke as a visionary, as he was making predictions long ago about the way things would be now. Because of his predictions people started working towards those things. Thus some of his predictions are now true.

But it Bill Gates is Sauron, who is Gandalf, Frodo, et al? Here are some of my ideas.
    • Steve Jobs is Gandalf. A bit loopy sometimes, has had a rebirth
    • Linus is Frodo. On a mission to destroy Sauron
    • Steve Ballmer is Gollum. A low life.
Anyone care to add to the list?

I believe a web pad should be more of a dumb terminal if you already have a PC. Even if you used Win2K Terminal Server to log into your own PC it would be better than being stuck with cut down lite versions of word processors and browser on your tablet.

You make the firmware upgradable on the tablet so you can adapt to new Terminal Server versions, for example.

There should be no form of an traditional OS on the WebPad at all. It should be just be a network device that when it is switched on it connects to your 'server' PC and does it's thing from there.

What I would really like to see is a totally wireless WepPad that links up to my 2 PCs (networked of course) that allows me to sit anywhere in the house. But it wouldnt be just a browser, I would like to see it as a X Terminal, so I can run a word processor, email app or even minesweeper if I wanted to.

I saw a webpad recently that required it to have a telephone line plugged into the damn thing, how mobile can you be around the house with a phone line dragging behind you?

    Perfect webpad:
    • 800x600 minimum res colour LCD, switchable backlight
    • Have a docking station at the computer (or wherever) for charging the batteries
    • Nice fast wireless network
    • Under 1.5 kgs
    • A bit bigger than an A4 piece of paper

I reckon without the need for hard disks, CD-ROM or CPU fan, I would think the battery life could be quite good.

Can it be done? I damn well hope so.
